Impact Winn checked off a couple of milestones with his first major-league RBI and steal in this contest. He's batting .217 (5-for-23) with a double over his first six major-league games while holding down the starting job at shortstop, as expected.

Richie Palacios - Gets on base four times Palacios went 3-for-4 with a double, a walk and two RBI in Wednesday's 6-4 win over the Pirates.
Impact Palacios has seen regular playing time in center field over the last week, and he's made the most of it, going 7-for-18 with three extra-base hits and six RBI through seven games. The rookie outfielder was recalled from Triple-A Memphis on Aug. 17 after slashing .297/.315/.456 over 40 games following a trade from the Cleveland organization, where he held a .217/.348/.313 slash line over 56 contests with Triple-A Columbus this year. Palacios' hot bat has kept him in the lineup, but the impending returns of Nolan Gorman (back) and Lars Nootbaar (abdomen) could cause enough of a lineup shuffle to send him to the bench in the near future.

Jake Woodford - Terrific in latest rehab start Woodford (shoulder) yielded just one hit while striking out six over five scoreless frames in a rehab start with Double-A Springfield on Wednesday.
Impact The right-hander needed just 56 pitches to cruise through his five innings in what could be his final rehab appearance before rejoining the Cardinals. With the rotation needs St. Louis has right now, Woodford would seem to be a good bet to be used as a starter down the stretch. He's been out since late June with a right shoulder strain.

JoJo Romero - Goes two innings for third save Romero picked up the save in Wednesday's 6-4 win over Pittsburgh, allowing one run on two hits while striking out three over two innings.
Impact Romero entered the contest with a two-run lead in the bottom of the eighth and pitched a 1-2-3 inning. He returned in the ninth and allowed one run on two hits, but was still able to escape with his third save of the season. The left-handed reliever has now converted each of his last three save attempts and has still allowed only one home run in his 2023 campaign. He currently holds a 17:1 K:BB through nine Augusts appearances.

Zack Thompson - Earns third win Thompson (3-5) earned the win Wednesday, allowing two runs on six hits and one walk over five innings against the Pirates. He struck out five.
Impact Thompson beaned Connor Joe in the third inning with the bases loaded to send home the Pirates' first run of the game and later surrendered a solo shot to Ke'Bryan Hayes. Outside of that the lefty was efficient in only his second start of the season and actually struck out four of the first eight batters he faced before going on to log his third win. Thompson has now allowed two earned runs over five innings in each of his first two starts, posting a 10:2 K:BB over that run. The only downside is that he's also given up a home run in each of his last three appearances.

Nolan Gorman - On track for Friday return Gorman (back) is expected to be activated from the 10-day injured list Friday as long as he gets through a full workout Wednesday with no setbacks, John Denton of MLB.com reports.
Impact Gorman was forced to the IL last week with a balky back, an injury which is initially suffered back during the 2020-21 offseason during a weightlifting incident. He's feeling much better following a pain-killing injection, though, and appears on track for activation when first eligible this weekend as the Cardinals travel to Philadelphia.
