Joel Payamps - Lands on IL Payamps was placed on the 15-day injured list with a strained lumbar muscle Friday.

Impact Payamps had inconsistent results in September, posting a 5.19 ERA and 1.15 WHIP in 8.2 innings over eight appearances. Although he tossed a scoreless inning Tuesday against the Mariners, he's apparently dealing with a back issue that will force him to miss the remainder of the regular season. The right-hander made a career-high 41 relief appearances between Kansas City and Oakland this year and generated a 3.23 ERA and 1.37 WHIP in 55.2 innings.

Impact He has a 4.30 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 16 strikeouts in 14.2 innings over 12 MLB appearances. Selman should pitch in low-leverage situations.

Ernie Clement - Claimed by A's Clement was claimed off waivers by the Athletics on Friday, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.

Impact The Guardians designated Clement for assignment earlier this week, but Oakland, an organization with much less depth than Cleveland, added him to the 40-man roster. Clement hit .200 with zero home runs and zero steals in 145 at-bats. His defensive versatility is one of the main appeals from a real-life perspective.

Impact Rodriguez was removed from Thursday's matchup against Oakland due to lower-back tightness, and manager Scott Servais called the injury "concerning." The 21-year-old is undergoing an MRI on Friday, and he'll be out of the lineup for at least one game. Jarred Kelenic will take over in center field and bat sixth.

Sam Moll - Will miss rest of season Moll (shoulder) will not return in 2022, the Associated Press reports.

Impact The book is therefore closed on a very encouraging campaign for the 30-year-old, who toiled in the minor leagues for eight-plus seasons with the exception of an 11-game stint with the Athletics in 2017 before finally sticking on the big-league roster in 2021. Moll truly came into his own this season, producing a 2-1 record, 2.91 ERA, 9.6 K/9 and 16 holds across 53 appearances. Under full team control through 2024, Moll should be healthy well in advance of spring training and slot into a key middle-relief role again in 2023.
