Loses spot on 40-man roster Weiss was designated for assignment by the Diamondbacks on Sunday.

Impact Weiss was added to the 40-man roster in November but failed to make the Opening Day roster, and he's been removed from the 40-man roster without seeing the majors. The 25-year-old has a 7.45 ERA, 2.28 WHIP and 10:7 K:BB in seven appearances for Triple-A Reno this year.

Gets optioned Thursday The Diamondbacks optioned Weiss to Triple-A Reno on Thursday.

Impact Along with Weiss, the Diamondbacks optioned pitcher Humberto Mejia and outfielder Stuart Fairchild to Reno in their latest round of roster cuts. Weiss was added to Arizona's 40-man roster over the winter after compiling a 4.60 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 88:31 K:BB in 78.1 innings between stops at Reno and Double-A Amarillo in 2021.

Contract selected Friday Weiss' contract was selected by the Diamondbacks on Friday.

Impact Weiss advanced to Triple-A Reno in 2021, and he posted a 5.04 ERA and 1.56 WHIP in 30.1 innings across 21 relief appearances at the highest level of the minors. The righty will now be shielded from the Rule 5 draft.
