Five Ks in no-decision Gusto took a no-decision Wednesday against the Cubs, striking out five while allowing two runs on six hits and two walks in 5.1 innings.

Impact Gusto held the explosive Cubs lineup in check Wednesday to end his season on a positive note. The right-hander gave the Marlins serviceable work particularly down the stretch, yielding two earned runs or fewer in nine of his last 10 starts since the beginning of August. He figures to be in contention for a rotation spot next spring for Miami, turning in a 4.09 ERA, 1.44 WHIP and 74:28 K:BB over 88 innings in 2026.

Impact Chicago had runners in scoring position in every inning against Gusto, finally getting on the board when Michael Conforto led off the top of the third inning with a solo shot. Gusto got the hook after 100 pitches (67 strikes), and while the right-hander has been able to complete five innings in only one of his last six starts, he's managed to put together a 3.29 ERA and 23:9 K:BB in 27.1 innings over that stretch, albeit with a 1.50 WHIP. He'll look to be a little more efficient in his next outing, which is scheduled to come at home next weekend against the Dodgers.

Impact Gusto allowed at least one baserunner in all four frames he pitched in (including two in both the first and fourth innings), but he managed to keep the Nationals off the board. It was the first time this season that he kept his opponent scoreless while completing at least four frames, and he finished Friday's outing having tossed 62 pitches (48 strikes) while generating six whiffs. Gusto figures to stay in the Marlins' rotation until Max Meyer (neck) returns from the injured list, which may not be until early September. Gusto is lined up to face the Red Sox at home next week.
