Optioned to Triple-A The Marlins optioned Gusto to Triple-A Jacksonville on Thursday.

Impact Gusto was up for a few days while Pete Fairbanks was on paternity leave, but he'll head back to the minors now as Fairbanks rejoins the active roster. The 27-year-old Gusto picked up a hold with a scoreless inning Wednesday in his lone appearance with the big club.

Added to major-league roster The Marlins recalled Gusto from Triple-A Jacksonville on Monday, Craig Mish of FanDuel Sports Network Florida reports.

Impact He's absorbing the roster spot vacated by Pete Fairbanks (paternity). Gusto collected a 5.67 ERA over 17 starts and 10 relief appearances in 2025 between the Astros and Marlins. He went five innings in his lone start with Jacksonville this season and will give the Marlins' bullpen some length.

Impact After failing to capture a starting or long-relief role with the Marlins heading into Opening Day, Gusto appears set to begin the season in the rotation at Jacksonville. The right-hander came over from Houston in a deadline deal last July and proceeded to go 0-3 with a 9.77 ERA and 1.72 WHIP over 15.2 innings in his three starts with Miami to close out the 2025 season.

Cleared for start of camp Gusto (shoulder) will be available to pitch this week as spring training gets underway, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

Impact Gusto closed the 2025 season on the Marlins' injured list after he was diagnosed with a right shoulder impingement in late August, but he was apparently able to make a full recovery from the injury over the offseason. Between his stops with Houston and Miami last season, Gusto started in 17 of his 27 appearances and posted a 5.67 ERA and 1.48 WHIP in 101.2 innings. The Marlins could have Gusto stretch out as a starter during spring training, but he'll likely serve as more of a insurance option for the rotation and is likelier to begin the 2026 campaign as a long man out of the bullpen.
