Rockies face the Cardinals looking to end road losing streak

The Colorado Rockies travel to the St. Louis Cardinals looking to stop a four-game road skid
AUGUST 7 • Associated Press
Snaps losing skid Saturday Feltner (4-5) tossed six innings in a win over Kansas City on Saturday, allowing four runs on eight hits and one walk while striking out three batters.
Impact Feltner fell behind 4-0 through the top of the third inning, but he settled down from there and didn't give up another run over the remainder of his outing. The Rockies' offense stormed to life with 12 runs of support to help the right-hander end a three-game losing streak. Feltner got just five whiffs and three punchouts Saturday, and he hasn't fanned more than four batters over his past four starts, so he's not exactly overwhelming hitters right now. Still, he's locked into a rotation spot and lines up to make his next start on the road in St. Louis.

Struggles again Saturday Feltner (3-5) allowed five runs on nine hits and one walk while striking out four batters over five innings in a loss to Milwaukee on Saturday.
Impact Feltner surrendered just two extra-base hits (a double and a homer), but he recorded only one 1-2-3 inning. The right-hander had walked four batters in each of his previous two outings, so a positive takeaway is that he issued just one free pass Saturday, though that didn't prevent him from taking a third consecutive loss. Feltner looked to be turning a corner with three straight quality starts from June 22 to July 3, but he's since regressed by giving up 17 earned runs across 11.2 frames over his subsequent three starts. He holds a poor 5.73 ERA, 1.46 WHIP and 54:29 K:BB across 70.2 innings spanning 15 starts on the season.

Tagged for eight runs Sunday Feltner (3-4) took the loss Sunday against the Reds after allowing eight runs on seven hits and four walks while striking out three over 2.1 innings.
Impact Feltner never found his footing as Cincinnati broke the game open immediately. Nathaniel Lowe belted a three-run homer in the first inning before Tyler Stephenson followed with a two-run shot later in the frame. Sal Stewart added a three-run homer in the second, and Feltner's day ended after issuing back-to-back walks in the third inning. The eight runs allowed tied his career high, set in 2024, and he has now issued four walks in three of his last five starts. Sunday's outing caused the right-hander's ERA to jump from 4.55 to 5.48. Feltner will look to rebound in his next scheduled start on the road against the Brewers.

Yields four runs in loss Feltner (3-3) allowed four runs on six hits and four walks while striking out three over 4.1 innings to take the loss versus the Giants on Thursday.
Impact Feltner threw just 53 of 92 pitches for strikes in this outing. He hadn't walked a batter over his previous two games, but he matched his season high with four free passes Thursday, and he also allowed multiple home runs for the third time this year. Feltner has a 4.55 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 47:24 K:BB through 63.1 innings over 13 starts, which isn't so bad for a Colorado starter. He's actually been better at home (4.14 ERA in eight starts) than on the road (5.32 ERA in five starts).

Next start coming Thursday Feltner is slated to make his next start Thursday against the Giants in San Francisco, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.
Impact Feltner was initially slated to get the ball for Wednesday's game against the Dodgers, but Colorado will instead use the series finale in Los Angeles to break rookie Gabriel Hughes into the rotation as a replacement for the injured Tomoyuki Sugano (back). As a result of the change, Feltner now lines up for a rematch with the Giants, whom he limited to three runs (two earned) over six innings at Coors Field his last time out Friday. Since returning from the injured list in late May, Feltner has arguably been the Rockies' most dependable starter, going 2-1 with a 3.23 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 27:12 K:BB in 39 innings across seven outings.

Strikes out nine in win Feltner (3-2) earned the win against the Giants on Friday, allowing three runs (two earned) on six hits and no walks with nine strikeouts over six innings.
Impact Feltner was given an early lead and ran with it, generating a whopping 17 swinging strikes on 88 pitches en route to his first win since May 30. The 29-year-old has now yielded just five earned runs across three straight quality starts, though he'd totaled just two strikeouts in the previous two outings before compiling a season-high nine Friday. He'll carry a 4.27 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 44:20 K:BB across 59 innings this season into a tough road matchup with the Dodgers next week.

Logs six innings in no-decision Feltner did not factor into the decision Sunday, allowing two runs (one earned) on five hits and no walks over six innings against Minnesota. He did not record a strikeout.
Impact Feltner limited damage, with his lone earned run coming on a Kody Clemens solo homer in the fourth inning, though the right-hander failed to record a strikeout in an outing for the first time since 2023. With June winding down, Feltner will finish the month with a 4.00 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 16:12 K:BB across five starts spanning 27 innings. The 29-year-old will take a 2-2 record with a 4.42 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 35:20 K:BB across 53 innings (11 starts) into his next outing, tentatively lined up for next weekend against San Francisco.

Allows two runs in no-decision Feltner did not factor into the decision Monday, allowing two runs on four hits and four walks over six innings against the Red Sox. He struck out two.
Impact Feltner was a bit wild, surrendering a season-high four walks, but he limited the damage to just two runs in the sixth inning. The elevated walk totals and lack of strikeout stuff remain concerns for the right-hander, but there's no denying he has yielded improved results since returning from right ulnar nerve inflammation at the end of May, compiling a 3.67 ERA and 1.15 WHIP across 27 innings over his past five starts. Feltner will carry a 4.79 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 35:20 K:BB across 47 innings (10 starts) into his next outing, tentatively scheduled for Sunday against the Twins.
