Impact Perez will remain out of the lineup for a second straight day Sunday, allowing Austin Hedges to receive another turn behind the dish for Cleveland's series finale with the White Sox. According to Francona, Perez is expected to be ready to check back in behind the dish for Monday's game in Kansas City, and the skipper anticipates the 32-year-old backstop will make a full recovery from the non-displaced fracture in about a week or a week and a half. Even before the injury surfaced, Perez was off to a miserable start to the season at the plate; he'll take a .143 average and career-worst 36.8 percent strikeout rate into Sunday's contest.

Scores four times Perez went 1-for-1 with a two-run home run, three walks and four total runs scored in Saturday's 11-3 win over the Tigers.
Impact Perez showed a good eye at the plate Saturday, part of a larger trend that has him hitting .267/.476/.667 across 21 plate appearances. He's knocked two homers with four RBI, five runs scored and six walks drawn in six games. Perez is a strong defensive catcher and should see a majority of the time behind the dish, while Austin Hedges is available to step in when Perez needs a breather.

Pops homer in loss Perez went 1-for-2 with a two-run home run and a pair of walks in Thursday's 3-2 loss to the Tigers.
Impact Perez's ninth-inning blast made things interesting for Tigers closer Gregory Soto, but Cleveland wasn't able to tie the game. The 32-year-old Perez struggled in 2020 with a .165/.264/.216 slash line and just one homer in 32 games. He's set to see the bulk of the time behind the dish for Cleveland, mostly due to his strong defense. Austin Hedges is Cleveland's other option at catcher, but neither he nor Perez should be expected to put up big offensive numbers.

Batting eighth in season opener Perez will start at catcher and bat eighth Thursday against the Tigers.
Impact Heading into the final year of the four-year, $9 million deal he inked in April 2017, Perez remains locked in as Cleveland's top backstop ahead of Austin Hedges. Perez is well regarded for his game-calling and defensive abilities, but he regressed mightily in 2020 after slugging a career-high 24 homers in 2019. Over 110 plate appearances last season, Perez managed a lowly .165/.264/.216 slash line while striking out at a career-high 34.5 percent rate. Though he projects to have one of the larger workloads in baseball, his shortcomings at the plate render him a low-end fantasy option.
APRIL 1, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Option picked up Perez's $5.5 million team option for 2021 was picked up by Cleveland on Friday, Zack Meisel of The Athletic reports.
Impact Perez sustained a right wrist contusion during Game 2 of the AL Wild Card Series, but it's unlikely that the issue will impact his offseason plans as he prepares for another season with Cleveland.
