Milwaukee Brewers left-hander Robert Gasser is heading back to the minors one day after he was unable to protect an early three-run lead in a loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers

Impact Gasser was recalled to the majors on May 17 but struggled across his two starts for the Brewers, allowing seven runs (six earned) on seven hits and six walks while striking out seven across 8.1 innings. He's been better in the minors this season (3.74 ERA and 1.51 WHIP across 21.2 innings in Triple-A), so he'll head back to Nashville to work on his command issues. Right-hander Carlos Rodriguez was recalled by the Brewers in a corresponding move.

Impact Gasser was spotted an early 3-0 lead but gave it away during a four-run fourth inning that included a three-run homer by Teoscar Hernandez. In two starts with the Brewers, the southpaw has surrendered six earned runs across 8.1 frames while posting a 7:6 K:BB and hitting three batters. If given another chance in the rotation, he'd line up for a road matchup against the Astros next weekend.

Awarded another start Gasser is slated to start Saturday's game against the Dodgers at American Family Field, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.

Impact Called up from Triple-A Nashville last weekend, Gasser endured a turbulent 2026 MLB debut in Sunday's 5-4 loss to the Twins, covering four innings and allowing three runs (two earned) on three hits and two walks while also hitting three batters with pitches. Manager Pat Murphy seems content to use Chad Patrick out of the bullpen for the time being, so rather than turning back to Patrick to fill the open spot in the rotation, the Brewers will give Gasser another look in a starting role. Even if he performs better this time out against a more formidable Dodgers lineup, Gasser may not be in line for an extended stay in the Milwaukee rotation since Brandon Woodruff (shoulder) looks to be moving closer to return from the 15-day injured list.

Prior to his call-up, he posted a 3.74 ERA, 1.51 WHIP and 32:8 K:BB across 21.2 innings over six starts with Triple-A Nashville. The strikeout potential is there, but he still has control issues to work through as he builds up in his first full season following Tommy John surgery in June of 2024.

Impact Gasser's last start came on April 10, as he was slowed for a bit by left triceps soreness. The southpaw has made two appearances for Nashville this season, allowing four runs with a 15:4 K:BB over nine innings of work.
