The 26-year-old was optioned to Nashville on Aug. 30 after being activated from the 60-day injured list, and he's mostly been working as a multi-inning reliever for the affiliate. Over 10 appearances with Nashville on the season, Gasser has covered 32 innings while compiling a 2.25 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 36:10 K:BB. The right-hander will be taking the hill Sunday on three days' rest after tossing 2.2 innings for Nashville on Wednesday, so he likely won't work deep enough into the contest to qualify for a win.

Impact Gasser has spent the entire season working his way back from a Tommy John procedure he underwent last June. He's made nine starts in the minors since beginning his rehab assignment in July, posting a 3.28 ERA and 1.26 WHIP through 24.2 innings between three levels. Now fully healthy, the 26-year-old lefty will fall victim to the logjam in Milwaukee's rotation and remain in Triple-A. However, he could still return to the majors during the final month of the year to make a spot start or work out of the bullpen.

Impact Gasser has now made eight starts in the minors since beginning his rehab assignment July 19 in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League. Though pitchers are typically allotted just 30 days of rehab time in the minors while on the injured list, pitchers like Gasser who are returning from Tommy John surgery are eligible for up to three consecutive 10-day extensions, and the Brewers appear to have taken advantage of that rule to give the right-hander some additional ramp-up time. Since shifting his assignment to Nashville on Aug. 8, Gasser has turned in a 1.98 ERA over 13.2 innings in four starts, but his other ratios (1.32 WHIP, 12:6 K:BB) aren't quite as shiny. Milwaukee will likely continue to allow Gasser to work as a starter during his rehab assignment, but if he rejoins the big club over the final five weeks of the season, he would presumably work out of the bullpen, unless injuries test the organization's starting depth.

The Brewers then advanced him to Nashville on Aug. 8, and over his three starts for the Triple-A affiliate, he's turned in a 1.00 ERA, 1.44 WHIP and 8:4 K:BB in nine innings. With Gasser's 30-day rehab window coming to an end, the Brewers could choose to activate him from the 60-day injured list and have him start or serve as a bulk reliever in Sunday's game against the Giants in an effort to build in an extra day of rest for the team's other rotation members.
