Plummets to ninth in order Mondesi will start at shortstop and bat ninth Sunday against the Twins, Alec Lewis of The Athletic reports.

Impact Nicky Lopez had batted out of the ninth spot in the order in three of the previous four games, but after a recent surge at the plate, he'll move up to the two hole in the series finale. As a result, the rest of the Royals regulars will drop back a spot in the lineup, leaving the struggling Mondesi as the No. 9 hitter for the first time this season. While Mondesi hasn't hesitated to run this season, he's gotten on base at a measly .263 clip and hasn't been efficient on the bases (five steals in nine attempts). Additionally, he has yet to hit a home run in 21 games, leaving those that selected Mondesi in fantasy drafts wanting more a quarter of the way through the season.

Impact After singling against Sean Poppen in the seventh inning, Mondesi stole second and third to triple his stolen stolen-base total for the season. Mondesi has drawn only one walk in 62 plate appearances and is still without a homer. However, after batting as low as eighth last week, Mondesi has hit fifth in each of the Royals' last three games, which suggests manager Mike Matheny is confident that Mondesi is close to getting it together.

Registers three hits Tuesday Mondesi went 3-for-4 with a double, run scored and RBI in Tuesday's win over the Cubs.

Impact Mondesi plated the Royals' first run of the game with a single in the second inning and scored their final run in the ninth. The 25-year-old has overcome a slow start by reaching base in six of his last seven games, going 11-for-24 (.458) over that span. Mondesi is batting .289 (13-for-45) on the season, though he has stolen only one base in three attempts.

Impact Mondesi left Sunday's game against the White Sox after fouling a pitch off his leg, but his removal was considered precautionary, so it's no big surprise to see him remain in the lineup Monday. Mondesi has started all 11 games this season despite going just .231/.231/.333 at the plate, though the rebuilding Royals have little reason not to let him work through his struggles on the field.

Lifted early Sunday as precaution Mondesi was removed from Sunday's game against the White Sox after the fourth inning with a quadriceps contusion, Alec Lewis of The Athletic reports.

Impact According to Lewis, the Royals are labeling Mondesi's removal as precautionary after he fouled a pitch off his lower leg during his lone at-bat in the second inning. Mondesi ended up grounding out in the at-bat and went on to play the next two innings in the field, but the Royals decided to err on the side of caution by pulling him out of the contest early. Nicky Lopez (shin) came off the bench to replace Mondesi, who can be considered day-to-day heading into Monday's series opener with the Cubs.

Impact Mondesi hit either second or third in the Royals' first five games of the season, but he's since shifted down in the lineup, as he'll bat sixth or lower in the order for the fourth time in five days Sunday.
