Tyler O'Neill - Back in lineup O'Neill is starting in left field and batting sixth for the Cardinals on Monday versus the Diamondbacks.

Impact O'Neill was on the bench for each of the previous two games after Lars Nootbaar's return from the injured list, but he'll play left in this one while Nootbaar handles center. Interestingly, O'Neill has been in left field for each of his last two starts after his first 10 starts all came in center field.

Paul Goldschmidt - Getting a day off Goldschmidt is absent from the Cardinals' lineup for Monday's contest against the Diamondbacks.

Impact It's the first day off this season for the reigning National League MVP. Brendan Donovan will handle first base and Nolan Gorman will play second.

Alec Burleson - In lineup at DH Burleson (shin) is starting at designated hitter and batting second for the Cardinals on Monday versus the Diamondbacks.

Impact Burleson exited Sunday's game after fouling a ball off his right shin, but X-rays were negative and he's feeling well enough a day later to at least hit. The Cards have Tyler O'Neill in left field.

Drew VerHagen - Collects first win VerHagen (1-0) allowed an unearned run without allowing a hit or a walk in one inning Sunday versus the Pirates, earning the extra-inning win.

Impact VerHagen gave up an RBI groundout to Canaan Smith-Njigba in the top of the 10th inning, but the Cardinals rallied for a walkoff win in the bottom of the frame. Through eight appearances, VerHagen has allowed three runs (two earned) while posting an 8:1 K:BB and three holds. With John Denton of MLB.com reporting manager Oliver Marmol said Sunday that Jordan Hicks would be shifting to a low-leverage role amid his recent struggles, VerHagen could be an option to see some late-inning work. It's unlikely his usage would lead to many saves, but he's been effective enough to snag some holds.

Adam Wainwright - Set for rehab start Wednesday Wainwright (groin) will begin a rehab assignment with Double-A Springfield on Wednesday, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

Impact It had been slated for Tuesday, but giving Wainwright an extra day will allow him to throw a few more pitches Wednesday. It will also line him up to pitch the same day as Jake Woodford, whose rotation spot he's likely to take. It's not clear how many rehab outings Wainwright will require, but he's on track for a return before the end of the month.
