Out with rotator cuff strain Fairbanks was placed on the 10-day injured list Friday with a right rotator cuff strain, Adam Berry of MLB.com reports.

Impact The right-hander surrendered a run over 1.1 innings during his last appearance Tuesday at Boston, and he'll now be sidelined for the near future. According to Neil Solondz of the Rays Radio Network, Fairbanks will be shut down from throwing for 2-to-3 weeks, so he'll likely be unavailable until at least early May. Diego Castillo is 2-for-3 in save chances this season and should continue to operate as the primary closer with Fairbanks and Nick Anderson (elbow) sidelined.

Nabs second hold in as many games Fairbanks was credited with his second hold in a win over the Marlins on Friday, firing a scoreless one-third of an inning during which he allowed no hits and issued one walk.

Impact Fairbanks' quick five-pitch appearance Friday was preceded by a one-inning stint Opening Day. The 27-year-old logged 47.2 frames over the past two seasons, and his high-90s fastball should play well in the later innings again in 2021.

Though he wasn't among the 12 Rays who recorded saves during the 2020 regular season, Fairbanks picked up three saves during the team's subsequent playoff run. The hard-throwing righty should continue to warrant consideration for end-game duties in 2021, though Cash isn't expected to commit to a primary closer.

Impact Fairbanks hasn't pitched yet this spring and will now have to wait at least two more days to do so, as the Rays have an off day Monday. With Opening Day still more than three weeks away, he should have plenty of time to get up to speed even with a minor delay.
