INJURIES

Limits damage Friday Sandoval gave up three runs on 10 hits and a walk while striking out three over five-plus innings in a no-decision versus the Rockies on Friday.
Impact Given the traffic on the bases, this could have been a far worse start at Coors Field for Sandoval. It's the second time in his last three outings that he's given up at least 10 hits, but leadoff home run he allowed to Jurickson Profar in the first inning was just the sixth long ball Sandoval's surrendered this year. He continues to effectively limit damage with a 4.16 ERA despite a 1.47 WHIP and 57:30 K:BB over 75.2 innings through 14 starts. The southpaw is projected for a home start versus the White Sox next week.

Gets back on track Friday Sandoval (4-6) earned the win over Kansas City on Friday, allowing four hits and four walks while striking out six batters over seven scoreless innings.
Impact Sandoval had been going through a rough patch coming into the outing, allowing 11 earned runs over 8.1 innings across his previous two starts. The lackluster Royals offense provided a remedy, as Sandoval allowed just four hits -- all of which were singles -- and snapped a streak of five straight losses. The left-hander still struggled somewhat with his control, tossing only 59 of 102 pitches for a strike and walking four, but the wildness didn't come back to bite him. Sandoval is tentatively lined up to make his next start against the Rockies in Colorado.

Strikes out eight in loss Sandoval (3-6) took the loss Saturday versus the Mariners, surrendering five runs on 10 hits while striking out eight and walking none over five innings.
Impact This was the third time in 12 starts that he hasn't walked a batter, and the eight strikeouts were a season high, but that's where the good news ends. He's given up 11 runs over his last 8.1 innings, and while struggling in Houston isn't too surprising, Sandoval's work against the Mariners wasn't great. The southpaw now has a 4.52 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 48:25 K:BB through 63.2 innings this season. He's lined up for a favorable road start in Kansas City next week.
JUNE 11, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Struggles in short outing Sandoval (3-5) took the loss against Houston on Saturday, allowing six runs on eight hits and three walks while striking out four batters over 3.1 innings.
Impact Sandoval gave up a run in each of the first and third frames before enduring a rough fourth. He began that inning by striking out Jake Meyers before the Astros tagged him for four straight singles. That resulted in Sandoval getting the hook, and he was charged with three runs after his departure when Jacob Webb surrendered an Alex Bregman grand slam. This was Sandoval's fourth straight loss and his shortest outing of the campaign, while the six runs were the most he has given up in an appearance this season. The southpaw was a popular preseason fantasy sleeper, but he's been inconsistent so far, posting a 4.14 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 40:25 K:BB over 58.2 innings.

Bounces back but takes loss Sandoval (3-4) took the loss Sunday versus the Marlins, allowing two runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out two over six innings.
Impact Sandoval was able to complete six frames for the fifth time in 10 starts, but a lack of run support sent him to his third straight loss. This was his fourth quality start of the season and the second to come in a loss. Sandoval now has a 3.42 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 36:22 K:BB through 55.1 innings. He hasn't struck out more than five batters in any of his last seven appearances. His next start is expected to be a challenging road matchup with the Astros.
MAY 29, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Short outing Saturday Sandoval (3-3) allowed three runs on five hits and four walks while striking out three over 4.2 innings, taking the loss versus the Twins on Saturday.
Impact Sandoval has failed to complete five innings in three of his nine starts this season, and each time has been because he's issued too many free passes. This was the first time in his last three outings he'd issued multiple walks. The southpaw has a 3.47 ERA with a 1.24 WHIP and 34:20 K:BB over 49.1 innings this season. Sandoval will look to rein in his control next weekend versus the Marlins.

Pitches well in loss Sandoval (3-2) took the loss Sunday, allowing three runs (two earned) on five hits and a walk over 7.2 innings in a 4-3 loss against the Guardians. He struck out five.
Impact Sandoval was sharp Sunday, allowing just an unearned run through his first seven innings before Josh Naylor smacked a go-ahead, three-run homer off Carlos Estevez in the bottom of the eighth, handing Sandoval the loss. Still, the 26-year-old left-hander has gotten off to a solid start in May, going 1-1 with a 3.32 ERA in his last three outings (19 innings). Sandoval now sports a 3.22 ERA with a 1.16 WHIP and 31:16 K:BB through 44.2 innings this season.
MAY 15, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Yields four runs over 6.1 innings Sandoval did not factor in the decision against Houston on Monday, allowing four runs on seven hits and no walks over 6.1 innings. He struck out two batters.
Impact Sandoval had a rough third inning, allowing four straight two-out hits that resulted in three Houston runs. The southpaw bounced back from there, allowing just one more run and two more hits the rest of the way. Sandoval struck out only two batters -- the third time this season he's fanned that few in a start -- but didn't walk anybody and completed six innings for the third time on the campaign. His 26:15 K:BB across 37 innings isn't very attractive, but he's given up just three homers and has a tolerable 3.41 ERA overall.
MAY 9, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Picks up second straight win Sandoval (3-1) got the win over the Cardinals on Tuesday, allowing one run on three hits and three walks while striking out four over five innings.
Impact Sandoval retired 13 of the first 14 hitters he faced, but eventually ran into a little trouble in the fifth. The Cardinals singled twice, and Tyler O'Neill wound up crossing the plate on a ground out from Andrew Knizner for their only run of the evening. Outside of an April 20 outing against the Yankees, Sandoval has allowed two or less runs in all of his other starts, although he has only tossed more than five innings twice and his 1.6 K/BB is on track to be the worst of his career. The 26-year-old will carry a 2.93 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 24:15 K:BB into his next projected start against the Astros next week.
MAY 3, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Goes seven frames in win Sandoval (2-1) earned the win over Oakland on Wednesday, pitching seven innings and allowing three runs (two earned) on six hits while striking out five batters.
Impact Sandoval allowed a run in each of the first, third and fifth frames, but the Angels' offense exploded for nine runs while he was in the contest to take most of the stress off him. The southpaw struck out a modest five batters but racked up an impressive 18 swings-and-misses while refusing to issue any walks. Sandoval's outing was a nice bounce-back from his previous start, when he gave up a season-worst five runs over four frames against the Yankees.
APRIL 27, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Done in by rough first inning Sandoval (1-1) took the loss against the Yankees on Thursday, allowing five runs on four hits and six walks while striking out five batters over four innings.
Impact Sandoval was in trouble from the get-go, allowing the first three batters he faced to reach base. The southpaw ended up being tagged for five runs in the first frame, and the damage was partly due to poor control, as he issued three walks. To Sandoval's credit, he was able to give the Angels three more innings and didn't allow any additional runs despite not having his best stuff, but the first-inning damage proved too much to overcome. Altogether, he issued six free passes, tying a career-high mark and matching the total he had given up in his first three starts combined. This was also Sandoval's first outing this season allowing more than one earned run. As a result, his ERA jumped from 1.23 to 3.38.

Strikes out six in no-decision Sandoval did not factor into the decision Friday, allowing two unearned runs on three hits and three walks over 3.2 innings in a 5-3 loss against the Red Sox. He struck out six.
Impact Sandoval's six strikeouts were a season high, but he couldn't get through the fourth, as his pitch count climbed to 90 after walking his third batter of the game with two outs. Both of the runs on his ledger were unearned due to errors from Luis Rengifo and Anthony Rendon, so his ERA dropped to 1.23 through three starts. Sandoval's next start is tentatively schedule during next week's four-game set versus Oakland.

No decision despite strong start Sandoval did not factor into the decision Friday, allowing one run on six hits and one walk over six innings against Toronto. He struck out two.
Impact It was far from a dominant effort for Sandoval with just the two strikes, but he deserved better than a no-decision Friday. The southpaw's only run allowed came in the fourth on a fielder's choice off the bat of Santiago Espinal. Unfortunately for Sandoval, the Angels were unable to hold the lead with Bo Bichette hitting a go-ahead three-run homer in the seventh. In two starts, the 26-year-old has registered a 1.64 ERA with a 4:3 K:BB ratio in 11 innings.

Breezes to win Saturday Sandoval (1-0) earned the win over Oakland on Saturday, pitching five innings and allowing one run on two hits and two walks while striking out two batters.
Impact The Angels staked Sandoval to an 11-0 lead with a huge top of the third inning, so the left-hander didn't face much stress in his season debut. The only run against Sandoval came on a Ramon Laureano solo shot in the fifth frame, and the hurler departed after that inning having thrown 86 pitches (56 for a strike). His overall performance wasn't dominant by any means -- he struck out only two batters -- but it was nonetheless a successful debut for Sandoval, who will likely face a tougher challenge his next time out, as he's tentatively scheduled to face off against the Blue Jays.

Works up to 79 pitches Sandoval tossed 79 in a minor-league game Sunday, Sam Blum of The Athletic reports.
Impact Sandoval spent time this spring pitching for Mexico in the World Baseball Classic, notably holding eventual champions Japan scoreless over 4.1 innings in a semifinal matchup. The southpaw appears to be pretty well ramped up for the regular season, as he followed his 79-pitch outing Sunday by doing some additional throwing in the bullpen. Sandoval is tentatively slated to start the Angels' second game of the campaign, April 1 in Oakland.

Starting in WBC semifinal Sandoval will start for Mexico in Monday's WBC semifinal game against Japan, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.
Impact Sandoval will get a big spring test against a loaded Japanese lineup that will include Angels teammate Shohei Ohtani. This will be Sandoval's second start in the WBC -- in his first outing, he allowed one run on two hits and two walks while striking out two batters in three innings against Team USA, who Mexico will face in the final if able to advance. The southpaw also got into two Cactus League games with the Angels prior to the WBC, allowing one run on three hits and posting a 6:0 K:BB over five frames.
