Back with big club The Mets recalled Mazeika from Triple-A Syracuse on Wednesday, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.
Impact With No. 2 backstop Tomas Nido landing on the injured list for the third time since the All-Star break with a sprained left thumb, Mazeika will rejoin the big club to serve as the top understudy to James McCann for the final five games of the season. Mazeika has hit .197 with one home run in 36 games at the big-league level in 2021.

Optioned to Triple-A Mazeika was optioned to Triple-A Syracuse on Tuesday, Deesha Thosar of the New York Daily News reports.
Impact The move comes after catcher Tomas Nido (thumb) was reinstated from the 10-day injured list. In 19 games after getting recalled on Aug. 17, Mazeika struggled to a .157 batting average with only two extra-base hits in 51 at-bats.

Moves into reserve role Mazeika is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Nationals, Tim Healey of Newsday reports.
Impact Mazeika's run as the Mets' undisputed No. 1 catcher ended Saturday, when James McCann (back) was reinstated from the 10-day injured list. Expect McCann to handle the bulk of the catching duties for the rest of the season as the 69-68 Mets aim to chase down Atlanta and Philadelphia for the National League East crown.

Takes seat Friday Mazeika is out of the lineup Friday against the Nationals, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.
Impact Mazeika started the past four games and will receive a maintenance day in Washington. He should continue to operate as the No. 1 option at catcher until James McCann (back) or Tomas Nido (thumb) are healthy, but Chance Sisco will receive the start Friday.

Giants turn 5 DPs, get Alonso with bags full to top Mets 3-2

Jake McGee induced a game-ending popup from Pete Alonso with the bases loaded, and the San Francisco Giants turned five double plays to beat the freefalling New York Mets 3-2

Filling in as No. 1 catcher Mazeika will start at catcher and bat eighth Sunday against the Dodgers.
Impact Mazeika is in the lineup for the fifth time in six games and looks poised to serve as New York's primary catcher while both James McCann (back) and Tomas Nido (thumb) are on the injured list. Through his first 41 big-league plate appearances, Mazeika owns a strong .270 average, but he's supplemented it with few counting stats (one home run, four RBI, three runs and no steals).

Called up by Mets Mazeika was recalled from Triple-A Syracuse on Monday, Tim Healey of Newsday reports.
Impact The 27-year-old spent a month and a half in the minors, but he'll rejoin the big-league club as depth behind the plate after Tomas Nido (thumb) was placed on the 10-day injured list Monday. Mazeika has hit .273 with a home run and four RBI in 16 major-league games this season.

Yanks-Mets rained out in Subway Series opener, play 2 Sunday

Sent to Triple-A Mazeika was optioned to Triple-A Syracuse on Friday.
Impact The 27-year-old worked as the Mets' backup catcher while Tomas Nido (wrist) was on the injured list, so he'll head back to the minors with Nido activated Friday. Mazeika is 6-for-22 in 16 games this season and should remain in the minors as long as James McCann and Nido remain healthy.

Recalled from Triple-A The Mets recalled Mazeika from Triple-A Syracuse on Tuesday, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.
Impact Mazeika hit .214 in 14 at-bats with the Mets before being optioned May 31, most notably putting the ball in play for two walk-off winners. He was recalled in May to be the backup catcher while Tomas Nido was injured, so now he'll presumably be the third catcher and simply an extra bat available off the bench.

Mets injuries: Stroman (hip), Conforto delayed, Lucchesi out

The hits just keep on coming for the injury-riddled New York Mets
JUNE 22, 2021 • Associated Press
Moving to Triple-A The Mets optioned Mazeika to Triple-A Syracuse on Monday.
Impact Mazeika had been serving as a No. 3 catcher and a reserve first baseman since his May 5 call-up, picking up only 16 plate appearances over the last three-plus weeks. He was deemed expendable with the Mets bringing back Pete Alonso (hand) from the 10-day injured list in a corresponding move.

Vlad Guerrero Jr.'s explosion, M's rise highlight last week's good times
Homers in loss Mazeika went 1-for-3 with a home run in Sunday's loss to the Rays.
Impact Mazeika replaced Jeff McNeil (hamstring) and made the most of his opportunity, recording his first homer of the season while seeing more than one at-bat for the first time in 2021. That said, he isn't likely to see a lot of at-bats going forward, and his value should remain minimal until that situation changes.
