Impact As Romero noted, a move from the outfield to first base could improve Colas' odds of making Chicago's Opening Day roster. Colas saw just 13 games of big-league action last season. He slashed .273/.368/.273 with just four RBI and zero extra-base hits across 38 plate appearances. The White Sox have a plethora of capable outfielders, including Andrew Benintendi, Luis Robert, Mike Tauchman, Austin Slater, Miguel Vargas and Dominic Fletcher. Colas would give Chicago a left-handed option to pair with Andrew Vaughn at first base.

Optioned to Triple-A The White Sox optioned Colas to Triple-A Charlotte on Sunday.

Impact The move corresponds with Eloy Jimenez (hamstring) being reinstated off the injured list Sunday. Colas joined the big club June 1 due to injuries across the roster, but he saw his playing time decrease over time. In 12 appearances since his call-up, Colas went 9-for-32 with four RBI and a .660 OPS over 32 at-bats. He should settle back into an everyday role in the minors, where he is slashing .244/.358/.406 with five home runs and 21 RBI over 193 plate appearances in Triple-A.

Impact It's the second time this season that Colas has been sent down, as he was also optioned back in early May following a slow start. Colas slashed just .219/.253/.331 in 50 games after being recalled in early July and overall is hitting only .216/.257/.314 in his rookie campaign. Gavin Sheets and Trayce Thompson should handle right field with Colas back in the minors.

Impact Colas is hitting .297 with six home runs and a 21.2 percent strikeout rate in 44 games since getting optioned to Triple-A on May 2. Gavin Sheets and Clint Frazier have been platooning in right field for the White Sox, and both of them have been below league average as hitters, so it would seem that Colas could be nearing a return to the big leagues.
