If Kirilloff stays in the minors for most of April, the Twins could gain another year of club control in his contract. Baldelli and the Twins haven't yet tipped their plays. If Kirilloff begins the season in the minors, the Twins could temporarily have a committee in left field with Jake Cave, Luis Arraez and a right-handed hitter, until Kiriloff is called up.

Bulks up for '21 Buxton reported to spring training at 212 pounds, up from 200 to 205 pounds in 2020, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports.
Impact Buxton has ranked in the 99th percentile among all players in sprint speed in each of his first six MLB seasons (per Statcast), going 62-for-71 on stolen-base attempts over that span. While the added weight might slow him a bit, it should help him more in terms of durability, which has long been a concern for the 27-year-old. The Twins have largely eschewed the run game in manager Rocco Baldelli's first two years at the helm, and though Buxton ranks as the team's top base-stealing threat, his opportunities to swipe bags could be more limited than his abilities suggest while he typically slots at the bottom of a strong Minnesota lineup. In fact, Buxton may be more of a power than speed play in fantasy these days; he mashed 13 home runs in 135 plate appearances in 2020, with his 9.6 HR/100 PA besting Luke Voit (9.4) for the MLB lead.

Impact Lewis was a non-roster invitee during spring training, but an MRI during intake testing revealed a torn ACL that should force him to miss the entire 2021 campaign. The 21-year-old will undergo surgery Friday with a recovery timeline between nine and 12 months. Lewis is one of the top prospects in Minnesota's system and has displayed impressive talent in the minors, but his major-league debut will now have to wait until at least 2022.

Luis Arraez could start at third base a game or two each week early on to give him rest. Donaldson has had chronic calf injuries -- he missed 38 games with a right calf strain in 2017 -- and played just 52 games in 2018 due to left calf and shoulder injuries.
