Blows save but earns win Fulmer (2-2) allowed one run on a hit and a walk to get credited with a blown save Monday against the Rays, though he was able to earn the win.

Impact Fulmer started the bottom of the eighth inning out with a strikeout, but got into some trouble by allowing a double and a walk with one out. He then tossed a wild pitch, and the lead runner would later score on a sacrifice fly to tie the game at 2-2, though the Tigers would score in the top of the ninth to go back ahead. Fulmer has now blown two saves this season to go with his 3.14 ERA, and while closer Gregory Soto has seemingly been on thin ice lately, the latter did wrap up Monday's contest with a clean ninth inning. For now, Fulmer should stick in a setup role, with Soto the top option for saves in Detroit.

Gregory Soto is still the primary closer, but Fulmer certainly has an important role in the Tigers' bullpen and will remain a solid fantasy asset if he keeps pitching like this.

The 2016 American League Rookie of the Year was second on the Tigers last season with 14 saves and is next in line should Soto falter.

Soto led the club with 18 saves last season, though Fulmer wasn't that far behind with 14 of his own. The former should see the bulk of the chances in 2022 with Fulmer typically getting high-leverage work in the eighth inning. His fantasy value would increase, of course, if he somehow supplanted Soto as the closer.

The righty was solid for the Tigers last season with a 2.97 ERA and 14 saves, so he should get rolling at some point. However, with Gregory Soto and offseason addition Andrew Chafin around, Fulmer might not see as many save opportunities in 2022.

Making nearly $5 million Fulmer and the Tigers agreed to terms on a one-year, $4.95 million contract Tuesday, avoiding arbitration, Kiley McDaniel of ESPN.com reports.

Impact Fulmer will get a raise of nearly $2 million in his final year of team control. That comes after a season in which he saved 14 games while posting career bests in ERA (2.97) and strikeout rate (24.6 percent).

Hinch could just play the matchups with his top bullpen options. Either would see a boost in value if they replaced Soto as the closer at any point.
