Takes no-decision vs. Indians
Fulmer allowed three runs on five hits and two walks over 2.2 innings pitched in Sunday's 8-5 loss to the Indians. He struck out two and did not factor in the decision.
Impact
Fulmer was able to work around a Francisco Lindor double to toss a scoreless first inning, but allowed a homer to Franmil Reyes to leadoff the second. The righty was bit by the long ball again an inning later when Lindor followed a Jose Ramirez walk with a two-run shot to give Cleveland a 3-0 lead. It marked yet another short start for Fulmer (58 pitches), who continues to be used cautiously in his return from Tommy John surgery. The 27-year-old is slated to face the Indians once again Friday.

Looks better in second outing
Fulmer opened Monday's win over the White Sox by tossing three scoreless innings. He allowed three hits and a walk, while striking out two.
Impact
This was a step forward for Fulmer, who allowed four runs on five hits and a walk across 2.2 innings on July 27, his only other appearance so far this season. In that first outing, Fulmer was tagged for three home runs, and he did a much better job of keeping the ball in play and limiting damage Monday. The righty is still being treated cautiously in his return from Tommy John surgery, as he left Monday's game after logging just 57 pitches. He figures to work as an opener again Sunday against Cleveland.

To pair with Norris Monday
Fulmer is slated to work as the opener in Monday's game against the White Sox, with Daniel Norris following him, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.
Impact
Fulmer has only made one appearance so far this season, as he had a start rained out last weekend, and then the Tigers and Cardinals postponed an entire series due to a coronavirus outbreak within the St. Louis organization. Because of the long layoff between outings and the fact that he's still building up stamina in his first season back after Tommy John surgery, Fulmer isn't expected to work too far into Monday's game. Norris is expected to handle the middle innings as the team's primary pitcher. Manager Ron Gardenhire indicated that he'd like to get three innings out of each pitcher.

Tigers, Reds rained out, to play 7-inning twinbill Sunday

Start postponed by rain
Fulmer won't pitch Saturday against the Reds as the game has been postponed due to rain.
Impact
Fulmer had been scheduled to start (or at least open) for the second time this year and was looking to bounce back from his season debut, in which he allowed four runs in just 2.2 innings against the Royals. The game will be made up as part of a seven-inning doubleheader Sunday, though Fulmer isn't scheduled to start either game.

Picks up win Tuesday
Alexander (1-0) pitched two scoreless innings of relief and picked up the win Tuesday against the Royals. He allowed two hits and struck out two.
Impact
Alexander is no longer being considered for a piggyback tandem with Michael Fulmer, but that didn't stop the lefty from securing the win as the second pitcher of the game Tuesday for the Tigers. Despite working in a more traditional bullpen role, Alexander should still be able to give Detroit multiple innings of relief when he pitches, which should allow him to vulture a few wins here and there the rest of the season.

Struggles in return to mound
Fulmer allowed four runs on five hits and a walk across two innings in a no-decision Monday against the Royals. He struck out two.
Impact
Making his first MLB start since 2018, Fulmer was done in by the long ball, as he allowed home runs to Maikel Franco, Whit Merrifield and Salvador Perez. The Tigers capped Fulmer at 47 pitches, and the righty figures to have his workload carefully monitored in his first year back after Tommy John surgery, which limits his fantasy appeal. He lines up to start again Sunday against the Reds, though he'll likely face another innings/pitch count restriction in that outing.

Working as opener Monday
Fulmer will serve as the opener Monday against the Royals, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports.
Impact
The 27-year-old is beginning the season with workload limitations as he returns from Tommy John surgery. It's unclear exactly what those limitations are, though Fulmer reached at least three innings of live batting practice in summer camp. The Tigers haven't officially said who is expected to pitch behind the right-hander.
