He owns a respectable 100 wRC+ in 11 games, but his 39.4 percent strikeout rate and 0.0 percent walk rate make for a worrying combination. He's been solid but unspectacular in 24 games for Triple-A Worcester, homering six times while slashing .263/.327/.474. A corresponding move has not yet been announced.

Impact Boston was in need of an extra arm out of the bullpen after starter Eduardo Rodriguez was able to give Boston only four innings in Tuesday's 10-8 win over Atlanta, so Chavis will cede his spot on the active roster to reliever Yacksel Rios. Chavis didn't appear off the bench for Boston during his two-day stint with the club.

Impact Chavis was sent to Triple-A Worcester in late May, but he'll return to the Red Sox after spending three weeks with the minor-league club. During his stint at the Triple-A level, he hit .275 with three home runs, 13 runs and 12 RBI in 17 games. Ryan Weber was designated for assignment in a corresponding move.
