Framber Valdez - Named Opening Day starter Manager Joe Espada announced Sunday that Valdez will start Opening Day against the Mets on March 27, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.
Impact After posting a career-best 2.91 ERA with a 1.11 WHIP and 169:55 K:BB across 176.1 regular-season innings last season, it was only a matter of time before Espada named Valdez as Houston's Opening Day starter. The left-hander has focused on the movement of his pitches during spring training and overall has pitched well with a 2.53 ERA across 10.2 innings.

Impact Walker has been rehabbing from a sore left oblique that developed in early March. He's progressed to hitting in a batting cage, and he appears to be on track to be available for Opening Day barring any setbacks. Walker signed a three-year, $60 million contract with the Astros in December after spending the last eight seasons with the Diamondbacks.

Graham Pauley - Optioned to Triple-A The Marlins optioned Pauley to Triple-A Jacksonville on Sunday.
Impact Pauley was acquired by the Marlins from the Padres in late July in a trade package centered around Tanner Scott. Pauley will begin the 2025 regular season in Triple-A after going 7-for-26 with two walks and four RBI in spring training. He appeared in 13 regular-season games for the Padres in 2024 and could see some action in the majors in 2025 if the Marlins are in need of depth in the infield.

Agustín Ramírez - Sent to Triple-A The Marlins optioned Ramirez to Triple-A Jacksonville on Sunday.
Impact Ramirez faced an uphill battle to make the Marlins' Opening Day roster, and as expected he'll begin the 2025 regular season in Triple-A. He was acquired by the Marlins from the Yankees in the Jazz Chisholm trade in late July, and with Jacksonville he finished the regular season with a slash line of .270/.368/.364 with four home runs and 20 RBI across 125 plate appearances. Ramirez made a good impression during spring camp, and a strong start in Triple-A could see him jump to the major-league roster at some point during the 2025 campaign.
