Impact He threw 70 pitches over 4.1 innings Friday in a rehab start. All told, Manning has given up four earned runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out four over 6.1 innings through two rehab appearances. The Tigers certainly have room for him in the rotation, but it seems like they want to give him one more tuneup before he gets activated from the 60-day injured list.

Moving rehab to Triple-A on Sunday Manning (shoulder) is scheduled to make his next rehab start Sunday with Triple-A Toledo, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.

Impact The Tigers plan to have two of their rehabbing starters pitch for Toledo that day, as Rony Garcia (shoulder) is scheduled to piggyback Manning in the outing. Manning has resided on the injured list since April 20, initially due to right shoulder discomfort. He's had his return date pushed back due to a bout of lightheadedness along with right biceps tendinitis, but Manning was cleared to restart his rehab assignment Tuesday with Single-A Lakeland. In his first game action since May 24, Manning covered two scoreless innings and gave up one hit and one walk. Following his upcoming start Sunday, he's expected to make one or two additional turns through the Toledo rotation following the All-Star break before likely rejoining the Tigers in early August.

Impact Manning had already spent 77 days on the 10-day IL, so the transaction doesn't have any affect on his timeline to rejoin the big club and merely clears a spot on the 40-man roster for right-hander Garrett Hill, who is slated to start one half of Monday's doubleheader with the Guardians. Of the five Detroit starting pitchers currently residing on the IL, Manning may be the closest to returning. He threw a bullpen session Saturday and could be cleared to come off the IL shortly after the All-Star break if he hits no further snags in his recovery from shoulder inflammation or biceps tendinitis.
