INJURIES

Undergoing testing on forearm Gonzales will undergo testing on his forearm and have his start skipped Saturday versus the Rangers, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.
Impact Gonzales felt some discomfort in his left forearm after his outing Sunday against the Pirates and will now reportedly be replaced on the mound Saturday by Bryan Woo, who's set to be called up from Double-A Arkansas for the start. Once the results of the testing on his forearm come to fruition, it's possible that Gonzales could be set for a stint on the injured list.

Allows one run Gonzales yielded one run on three hits and four walks over 5.1 innings in Sunday's win over the Pirates. He struck out four and did not factor in the decision.
Impact Gonzales rolled through four scoreless frames before the Pirates finally put a run on the board in the fifth inning. He's given up three runs over his last two starts after getting crushed for eight runs against Boston on May 17. The 31-year-old southpaw dropped his ERA to 5.22 with a 34:18 K:BB across 50 innings. Gonzales recorded a 5.68 ERA with just 15 punchouts in five May starts. His next start is projected to be a road matchup with the Rangers.
MAY 29, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Rebounds for fourth win Gonzales (4-1) allowed two runs on five hits and a walk while striking out four over six innings to earn the win Tuesday over the Athletics.
Impact Gonzales was coming off of an ugly start last Wednesday versus Boston, in which he allowed eight runs in just 1.2 innings. He had trouble in the opening frame Tuesday as well, but then settled in and got some run support to get back in the win column. Gonzales now has a 5.68 ERA, 1.51 WHIP and 30:15 K:BB through 44.1 innings across nine starts this season. He's still tough to trust in fantasy as a low-strikeout starter, especially since his walk rate 3.0 BB/9 is his highest since he became a major-league regular in 2018. The southpaw is lined up for a home start versus the Pirates this weekend.

Blown up by BoSox Gonzales (3-1) took the loss against Boston on Wednesday, allowing eight runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out one batter over 1.2 innings.
Impact Gonzales fell behind 3-0 after one frame, and things got even worse for him in the second. In that inning, five Red Sox batters reached base, and all came around to score (including two after the lefty hurler was pulled for a reliever). Gonzales had racked up two straight quality starts coming into Wednesday, though he had another blow-up prior to that stretch, yielding eight runs (five earned) in three innings against Toronto on April 30. The loss against Boston was Gonzales' first of the season, but his overall numbers have not been pretty, as he's posted a 6.10 ERA and 1.59 WHIP through 38.1 frames.

Earns win after quality start Gonzales (3-0) earned the win Friday, allowing two runs on five hits and one walk over six innings during a 9-2 win over Detroit. He struck out two.
Impact Gonzales got plenty of early run support and cruised through four scoreless frames before surrendering a two-run home run to Jake Rogers in the fifth. The long ball was the lone blemish on the night for the left-hander, who notched his second straight quality start and third of the season. He has allowed a homer in four of his first seven appearances this year and sports a 4.41 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 25:12 K:BB through 36.2 innings. While the numbers don't jump off the page, Gonzales continues to be a steady piece of Seattle's rotation to start the campaign and has gotten the job done more often than not.
MAY 13, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Decent in no-decision Gonzales allowed three runs on six hits and three walks with four strikeouts over six innings in a no-decision versus the Astros on Saturday.
Impact Gonzales has had only one truly awful outing this season, and that was last Sunday versus the Blue Jays. He looked to be in line for his first loss of the season Saturday before the Mariners rallied for seven runs in the eighth inning. The soft-throwing southpaw now has a 4.70 ERA, 1.47 WHIP and 23:11 K:BB through 30.2 innings across six starts. He's projected for a road start in Detroit next week.

Impact Gonzales was spotted a four-run lead in the top of the first, but he surrendered multiple runs in each of his three frames and was in line for the loss before Seattle made a late-inning comeback. The left-hander had been solid over his previous three starts after a shaky opening to the campaign, but Sunday's performance was his worst outing thus far and lowered his ERA to from 3.32 to 4.74. Things don't get easier for Gonzales, whose next start is scheduled during a three-game set with the Astros.

Earns second win Gonzales (2-0) got the win Tuesday, allowing one run on four hits and a walk over five innings in a 5-3 victory over the Phillies. He struck out two.
Impact Gonzales kept the Phillies off-balance Tuesday, allowing just one run on an Edmundo Sosa home run in the fifth inning en route to his second win. Gonzalez has been solid over his last three starts, allowing four runs over 16.2 innings while striking out 16. The left-hander lowered his ERA to 3.32 with a 1.25 WHIP and 17:7 K:BB through his first four starts of the year.

Moving up to start Tuesday Gonzales will move up a day to start for the Mariners on Tuesday in Philadelphia, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.
Impact The Mariners have decided to flip-flop Gonzales and Logan Gilbert, who will now go Wednesday. Gonzales -- who will be pitching on an extra day of rest Tuesday -- is coming off his strongest start so far this season, having struck out nine while limiting the Brewers to two runs over six innings last Wednesday.

Fans nine in no-decision Gonzales tossed six-plus innings against Milwaukee on Wednesday, allowing two runs on four hits and one walk while striking out nine batters. He did not factor in the decision.
Impact Gonzales pitched for the first time in 11 days as a result of going on paternity leave last Friday. The time off appeared to have done him well, as he tied a career-high mark with nine punchouts in his return. Gonzales also notched his first quality start of the campaign, though a big seventh inning for the Brewers prevented him from picking up the win. Since giving up four runs over five innings in his first start of the season, Gonzales has rebounded by yielding just three runs across 11.2 frames over his subsequent pair of starts.

Goes on paternity leave Gonzales was placed on the paternity leave list by the Mariners on Friday, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports.
Impact Gonzales had been slated to start Friday against the Rockies, but those duties will now fall to Tommy Milone. While a specific return date to the Mariners' rotation for Gonzales isn't clear, he should be ready sometime next week.

Falls short of quality start Gonzales (1-0) picked up the win Saturday, allowing one run on six hits and three walks over 5.2 innings in a 3-2 victory over the Guardians. He struck out five.
Impact The southpaw wasn't quite efficient enough to record a quality start, tossing 62 of 93 pitches for strikes, but it was still a big improvement on his first outing of the season. Gonzales will look to build on this performance in his next start, likely to come next weekend at home against the Rockies.

Gives up four runs Sunday Gonzales did not factor into the decision Sunday, allowing four runs on six hits and two walks over five innings in a loss to the Guardians. He struck out one.
Impact Gonzales made just three spring starts this year and didn't toss more than 48 pitches in any of those outings. While the southpaw wasn't particularly sharp during his regular-season debut Sunday, he threw 69 pitches against the Guardians, an encouraging mark given his limited Cactus League work. He projects for a rematch against the Guardians on the road Saturday.

Lengthy time between starts Gonzales hasn't started an official Cactus League game since March 3 but threw four innings in a "B" game against the Padres on Thursday, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.
Impact Gonzales was supposed to log a start Wednesday until rain washed out that opportunity, but he was able to get his work in with the four frames on the Padres' side of the Peoria training complex the following morning. Gonzales' most recent time on the mound in official Cactus League action went well, as he fired 3.2 scoreless innings against Diamondbacks on March 3. However, the veteran left-hander does have some formidable competition for the No. 5 starter job in Chris Flexen, who's posted a 2-0 record, 2.08 ERA and 1.15 WHIP across 13 innings this spring.

Impact Gonzales pounded 33 of his 48 offerings in for strikes while working on what would be the sixth pitch in his arsenal, a slider. Shannon Drayer of 710 ESPN Seattle reports catcher Tom Murphy came away particularly impressed with Gonzales' performance overall after the left-hander was bounced around for four earned runs on five hits over two innings by the Angels in his first Cactus League start. "I saw a great adjustment," said Murphy. "I felt his fastball command wasn't usual Marco today, then he just came out and just started pounding his breaking ball. For him to do that mid game, that's why Marco is so good at going seven innings."
