Will be flipped to another team
Atlanta is expected to flip Gonzales (forearm) to a new team in another trade, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports.
Impact
Gonzales was acquired from the Mariners on Sunday as part of the Jarred Kelenic trade, but it appears his stay in Atlanta will be a brief one. It is not yet known which club will be acquiring the left-hander, but it sounds like Atlanta already has something in the works. Gonzales posted a 5.22 ERA over just 10 starts in 2023 before requiring season-ending surgery in mid-August to address a nerve issue in his left forearm. He is expected to be healthy for spring training.

Normal offseason expected
Gonzales is expected to have a normal offseason after recently undergoing surgery for a nerve issue in his left forearm, Shannon Drayer of Seattle Sports 710 AM reports.
Impact
Gonzales had already been ruled out for the season, but it sounds like he should enter the offseason without any restrictions. The left-hander is set to earn $12.25 million in 2024 and the Mariners have a $15 million option on him for 2025. Gonzales was limited to just 10 starts in 2023 before getting hurt, posting a 5.22 ERA.

Out for season
Gonzales will undergo season-ending surgery on his left forearm, Shannon Drayer of Seattle Sports 710 AM reports.
Impact
Gonzales was initially placed on the injured list in June with a flexor strain in his left forearm and was later shut down from a throwing program due to a nerve issue in his elbow. He had hoped to avoid surgery, but undergoing the procedure will give him the best chance to be ready for the start of the 2024 season. The 31-year-old southpaw will conclude 2023 with a 5.22 ERA and 1.46 WHIP alongside a 34:18 K:BB across 50 innings in 10 starts.

Return this season in doubt
Gonzales (forearm), who was recently transferred to the 60-day injured list, is running out of time to pitch again in 2023 per general manager Justin Hollander, the team's official...
Impact
Per Hollander, the nerve issue that led to Gonzales' initial placement on the IL back on June 3 persists, and that's preventing the left-hander from beginning any type of ramp-up activity. Hollander remarked "the clock is ticking on that" when asked about Gonzales' chances of returning this season, noting the veteran would need an extensive amount of time to build his arm strength back up once he's finally cleared to begin a throwing program.

Shifts to 60-day IL
The Mariners transferred Gonzales (forearm) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Wednesday.
Impact
Gonzales was initially placed on the 15-day IL on June 3 and hasn't even begun a rehab assignment yet, so he was already expected to miss more than 60 days before the Mariners made the transaction Wednesday. The move allowed the Mariners to clear a spot on the 40-man roster for reliever Trent Thornton, whom Seattle acquired via trade from Toronto.

Optimistic about progress
Gonzales said his progress from a left flexor strain has been good upon his return from the All-Star break, but he didn't elaborate any further, the team's official site reports.
Impact
The right-hander has been on the shelf since June 3 and was shut down from all activity for two weeks after meeting with Dr. Neal ElAttrache on June 26 in Los Angeles. There's no indication yet that Gonzales is inching closer to a throwing program, and he'll be in store for a lengthy rehab assignment whenever he does progress to that stage of his recovery.

Shut down with nerve issue
Gonzales has been shut down for two weeks because of nerve issues in his elbow, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.
Impact
Gonzales resumed throwing earlier this month, but he's hit another snag and can probably be ruled out through at least the end of July. The left-hander originally landed on the injured list June 3 due to a forearm flexor strain.

Begins throwing program
Gonzales (forearm) will play catch for the third day in a row Tuesday, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports.
Impact
"Very light, like nothing, no tension," Gonzales said. "So I'm not really putting a timeline on it. I'm day by day, obviously. I just want to take this slow because I don't want this to be something that lingers for sure." Gonzales will take a break from catch Wednesday before determining the next step in his rehab. He's working his way back from a flexor strain and there is no timetable for his return.

Diagnosed with flexor strain
MRI results revealed a flexor strain in Gonzales' left forearm, Shannon Drayer of Seattle Sports 710 AM reports.
Impact
The good news is that there doesn't seem to be any damage done to Gonzales' UCL, but he will still be shut down from throwing for another 7-to-10 days. If all goes well during his rehab process, the 31-year-old lefty should be able to return right before the All-Star break.

Placed on 15-day IL
Gonzales was placed on the 15-day injured list Saturday with a left forearm strain.
Impact
Gonzales felt discomfort in his forearm following his last start May 28 against the Pirates and testing has since revealed a strain. Bryan Woo is up from Double-A Arkansas to fill the vacant spot in the Mariners' starting rotation, beginning with his MLB debut Saturday versus the Rangers. There's no timetable yet on Gonzales, but this type of injury usually requires more than just a couple weeks of rest and rehab.
