Making rehab start Sunday Castillo (shoulder) is scheduled to begin a minor-league rehab assignment Sunday, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic reports.

Impact The 29-year-old threw 35 pitches during live batting practice Tuesday, and the next step in his rehab will be pitching in minor-league games. Castillo is expected to report to Triple-A Lousiville or High-A Dayton and be limited to about 50 pitches. He'll likely require two additional rehab starts after Sunday before returning from the injured list.

Bullpen session coming this weekend Reds manager David Bell said Castillo (shoulder) will play catch Thursday and is likely to throw a bullpen session over the weekend, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.

Impact Cincinnati officially moved Castillo to the 10-day injured list Thursday, but the right-hander doesn't look like he'll reside there for a lengthy period to open the season. Though Castillo isn't on pace to make it back on the active roster in the minimum 10 days, Bell said that the Reds are optimistic the 29-year-old will be ready to go by late April. While Castillo and Mike Minor are on the IL, top prospects Hunter Greene and Nick Lodolo will hold down spots at the back end of the rotation.

Impact Bell further said that Castillo will probably be limited to 3-to-4 innings when he ultimately returns. The same holds true for teammate Mike Minor. That means that for our purposes, Castillo will be difficult to activate until May.

However, that's the minor news of the day, as it was reported earlier Tuesday that the right-hander is dealing with shoulder soreness and may not be ready for the start of the season.
