INJURIES

Allows four runs in win Castillo (9-7) allowed four runs on nine hits and a walk while striking out three over seven innings to earn the win Wednesday over the Royals.
Impact For the second time in three August outings, Castillo was not at his best, but he was able to nab his second win of the month. The right-hander benefited from three of the Royals' four scoring plays against him coming on outs. This was the third time he's allowed four or more runs in nine starts since the beginning of July. Overall, Castillo is at a 3.23 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 166:37 K:BB through 150.1 innings over 25 starts. He's projected for another favorable start on the road against the White Sox next week.
AUGUST 17, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Bounces back versus Baltimore Castillo (8-7) allowed one run on two hits and two walks while striking out eight over six innings to earn the win Friday over the Orioles.
Impact Castillo was tagged for seven runs over six innings versus the Angels a week ago, but he bounced back against the American League's top team. He's racked up four quality starts over six outings since the All-Star break, though he has just two wins to show for it in that span. The ace right-hander is now at a 3.14 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 163:36 K:BB through 143.1 innings over 24 starts this season. Castillo is projected for a favorable road start in Kansas City next week.
AUGUST 12, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Roughed up in no-decision Castillo allowed seven runs on 10 hits and a walk while striking out six over six innings in a no-decision versus the Angels on Friday.
Impact Castillo matched his season high in runs allowed, but he was still able to scrape his way to six innings. Six of the runs on his line came from three home runs. The poor outing pushed Castillo's ERA up to 3.21 with a 1.05 WHIP and 155:34 K:BB through 137.1 innings over 23 starts this season. He's generally been a reliable ace for the Mariners, making this look like a bump in the road rather than the start of a downward trend. Castillo is projected for a tough home start versus the Orioles next week.

Shohei Ohtani running away with 2023 AL MVP, huge shift in odds
Tosses six shutout frames Castillo (7-7) yielded two hits and a walk over six scoreless innings Sunday, striking out seven and earning a win over Arizona.
Impact Castillo retired the last eight batters he faced and allowed just one Diamondback to reach scoring position in his dominant outing. He's issued two or fewer walks in seven straight outings, posting a 48:6 K:BB during that stretch. His season ERA is down to an impressive 2.88 with a 149:33 K:BB through 131.1 innings. Castillo's next start is projected to be on the road against the Angels.
JULY 31, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Notches nine strikeouts Monday Castillo allowed two runs on four hits and two walks while striking out nine batters over seven innings in a no-decision against Minnesota on Monday.
Impact Both of the runs and three of the four hits Castillo gave up came in the fifth inning. The veteran hurler was otherwise dominant, racking up 18 swinging strikes and nine punchouts. Castillo finished with his third quality start over his past four outings, though he's managed only one win over that stretch. He's been a consistent and reliable starter in his first full season with Seattle, completing at least five frames in all 21 of his starts and compiling a 3.02 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 142:32 K:BB over 125.1 innings.
JULY 25, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Strikes out 11 in no-decision Castillo allowed three runs on six hits and two walks while striking out 11 over six innings in a no-decision versus the Twins on Wednesday.
Impact Castillo's 11 strikeouts were a season high, and he earned his third quality start in his last five outings. He also gave up multiple home runs for the sixth time in eight starts, as Edouard Julien and Max Kepler tagged Castillo for solo shots in the fifth inning. The veteran right-hander is at a 3.04 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 133:30 K:BB through 118.1 innings over 20 starts. He's projected for a rematch with the Twins in Minnesota next week.
JULY 20, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Takes seventh loss Castillo (6-7) took the loss Friday, allowing three runs on four hits over five innings against the Tigers. He struck out five.
Impact Castillo is unlucky to have a losing record this year, as he's posted some of the better pitching stats in the league so far this year. The right-hander's 1.03 WHIP ranks sixth in MLB, and would be a career-best mark if the season ended today. The veteran's next start is tentatively slated to be against the Twins on Wednesday.

Pitching Ninja's MLB All-Star Game preview: Gerrit Cole, Zac Gallen and more
Closes first half with win Castillo (6-6) allowed an unearned run on five hits and struck out three without walking a batter over seven innings to earn the win Friday over the Astros.
Impact Castillo limited the damage to a third-inning RBI single from Alex Bregman, which came after a two-out error by Kolten Wong. Castillo had given up three or more runs in four of his last five starts before Friday's sharp outing. The right-hander concludes the first half with a 2.85 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 117:28 K:BB through 107.1 innings over 18 starts. He's likely to next take the mound in the All-Star Game in Seattle, and he could still be in line to face the Tigers next weekend following the break.
JULY 8, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Stumbles against Rays Castillo allowed six runs (five earned) on eight hits over six innings in Sunday's win over Tampa Bay. He struck out six and did not factor in the decision.
Impact Castillo eventually settled in to toss three scoreless frames after yielding six runs in the first three innings Sunday. He fired 70 of 95 pitches for strikes, including 19 whiffs, his highest total since June 9. The five earned runs charged to him tied his season high; he posted a 2.32 ERA in seven starts between Sunday's start and May 16 when he was tagged with five earned runs against Boston. For the season, Castillo is sporting a 3.14 ERA and an impressive 114:28 K:BB through 17 starts. His next start is projected to be in Houston.
JULY 3, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Picks up win Monday Castillo (5-6) earned the win over Washington on Monday, allowing three runs (two earned) on seven hits and one walk while striking out seven batters over seven innings.
Impact Castillo allowed a solo homer in each of the first and second frames but settled down thereafter and finished his outing by retiring the final seven batters he faced. The right-hander racked up an impressive 17 swinging strikes and tied his season high by completing seven frames. The victory snapped a personal four-game losing streak for Castillo, though he had maintained a decent 3.42 ERA and 1.23 WHIP during that stretch. Though the veteran's record is just 5-6 on the season, he's been very effective with a 2.86 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 108:28 K:BB over 94.1 innings.
JUNE 27, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Drops to 4-6 Castillo (4-6) took the loss against the Yankees on Wednesday, allowing three runs on four hits and four walks while striking out three batters over five innings.
Impact Though Castillo yielded just four hits, two of those left the yard, and he also issued four walks. The last number is particularly concerning because it comes on the heels of the season-high six walks he issued against Miami in his previous outing. Prior to the pair of wild performances, Castillo hadn't handed out more than two free passes in any of his first 13 appearances of the season. The right-hander has now lost each of his past four starts, though that's partly due to poor run support, as he's posted a respectable 3.42 ERA over that span. Castillo will look to get back in the win column -- and to exhibit better control -- in his next outing, which is tentatively lined up to come at home against Washington.
JUNE 22, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Walks six in loss Castillo (4-5) allowed two runs on two hits and six walks while striking out six over 5.2 innings to take the loss Wednesday versus the Marlins.
Impact Castillo hadn't walked more than two batters in any of his starts this season, so it's safe to call this one an anomaly. Despite the lackluster control, he still turned in a decent effort, though it was also his third straight loss. All five of his losses have come in his last seven outings. Castillo still has an excellent 2.73 ERA with a 1.02 WHIP and 98:23 K:BB over 82.1 innings across 14 starts this season. He'll look to regain his command in his next start, tentatively scheduled to be on the road versus the Yankees next week.
JUNE 15, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Mixed results in loss Castillo (4-4) allowed five runs (three earned) on six hits and a walk while striking out 10 over six innings, taking the loss Friday versus the Angels.
Impact This was Castillo's second 10-strikeout effort of the season, both of which have come in his last three starts. He also gave up multiple home runs for the second time this year, and the five runs allowed were the second-highest total he's given up. All in all, it was a middling performance for the Mariners' ace, who now has a 2.70 ERA, 0.99 WHIP and 92:17 K:BB through 76.2 innings across 13 starts. He's projected for a home start versus the Marlins next week.

Takes tough-luck loss Castillo (4-3) yielded one run on five hits and a walk over seven innings Friday, striking out six and taking a loss against Texas.
Impact Castillo fired five shutout frames before finally coughing up a run in the sixth. The Mariners were shut out, resulting in him taking his first loss since May 16. He's posted a 24:5 K:BB while giving up just one run over his last three starts. Castillo had allowed 12 earned runs over his previous three outings and now owns 2.55 ERA. He's lined up to face the Angels on the road next week.

Season-high 10 strikeouts in win Castillo (4-2) earned the win Saturday, allowing one hit and two walks over six scoreless innings during a 5-0 win over Pittsburgh. He struck out 10.
Impact Castillo completed six scoreless innings for a second straight game and struck out a season-high 10 batters Saturday. Before his dominating two-game stretch, the Mariners' ace allowed 17 earned runs over his previous five starts, so fantasy managers can breathe a sigh of relief, as it appears Castillo has regained his elite form. Despite the tough stretch, the right-hander still sports elite season-long numbers (2.69 ERA, 0.99 WHIP and 76:15 K:BB over 63.2 innings) and remains one of the best pitchers in MLB.

Bounces back Monday Castillo (3-2) earned the win Monday over the Athletics, allowing four hits and two walks while striking out eight over six scoreless innings.
Impact The Mariners had an 8-0 lead when Castillo exited the contest, allowing him to cruise to a win after he was tagged for seven runs in five innings in his last start. Castillo kept runs off the board in three of his first four starts of the season, but had given up 14 runs (12 earned) across his three most recent efforts before bouncing back Monday. He now has a 2.97 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 66:13 K:BB through 57.2 innings this season. Castillo is projected for a home start versus the Pirates this weekend.

Hit hard in Tuesday's loss Castillo (2-2) took the loss Tuesday, coughing up seven runs (five earned) on six hits -- including three home runs -- and two walks over five innings as the Mariners were downed 9...
Impact Boston jumped on the right-hander for four runs in the first inning, and after he'd seemed to right the ship, Castillo gave up three more in the fifth. All six hits off him went for extra bases, with Justin Turner, Triston Casas and Jarren Duran all taking him deep. After a great start to the season, Castillo has fallen into a funk, going five straight outings without recording a quality start and posting a 5.67 ERA and 1.44 WHIP over that stretch despite a 32:7 K:BB through 27 innings. He'll get a golden opportunity to turn things around in his next trip to the mound, however, as he's likely to face the A's at home early next week.

Fans nine in first loss Castillo (2-1) took the loss Wednesday, giving up three runs on eight hits over five innings as the Mariners fell 4-3 to the Rangers. He struck out nine without walking a batter.
Impact An elevated pitch count led to a relatively early exit, but Castillo was dominant while on the mound and generated 34 called or swinging strikes among his 98 pitches. While he no longer sports an unblemished record, the 30-year-old righty will still take a 2.70 ERA, 0.99 WHIP and 52:9 K:BB through 46.2 innings into his next outing, which is likely to come early next week in Boston.
