Not ready to return from IL Gurriel (hamstring) appears on track to begin a rehab assignment in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League as soon as next Monday, MLB.com reports.

Impact Though Gurriel is eligible to return from the 10-day injured list Tuesday, he'll need some more time to fully heal from the left hamstring injury that he sustained on a sliding catch during a May 22 game against the Rockies. According to the report, Gurriel has resumed running, taking part in outfield drills and taking batting practice against a machine since landing on the IL. He'll likely increase the intensity of his workouts this week before heading out on a rehab assignment and potentially making his return to the Arizona lineup around the middle of June.

Impact Gurriel injured his hamstring while sliding to make a catch in the outfield Friday, leading to his placement on the 10-day IL. It sounds like both the player and team expect him back right away June 2, but in the meantime, Tommy Troy will get a look in left field for the Diamondbacks.

Lands on injured list The Diamondbacks placed Gurriel on the 10-day injured list Saturday with a left hamstring strain.

Impact Gurriel was pulled from Friday's contest with hamstring tightness after making a sliding catch in the outfield. Further evaluation confirmed that he suffered a strain, so he'll move to the injured list and remain sidelined until at least June 2. In the meantime, Jorge Barrosa and Tim Tawa are the leading candidates for extra playing time in the outfield, and Tommy Troy will come up from Triple-A Reno to replenish the D-backs' outfield depth.

Exits with trainer Gurriel was removed from Friday's game against the Rockies with an apparent injury, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports.

Impact Gurriel was taken out of the game after making a sliding catch in left field. It's not immediately clear what is bothering him, but the Diamondbacks may provide more details in the near future. Jorge Barrosa entered the game as Gurriel's replacement and would be the favorite to work as Arizona's left fielder in any future games the latter has to miss.

Clouts first homer in win Gurriel went 2-for-5 with a home run and two RBI in Sunday's 8-6 win over Colorado.

Impact Gurriel had a run-producing single in the third inning and then belted a solo home run in the fifth. It was the first homer of the season for Gurriel, who's had a slow start since being activated off the 60-day injured list in April; however, the bat has showed recent life. He's delivered runs in four of the last five games and is 6-for-20 with three extra base hits and five RBI during that span.
