Struggles versus Twins Allen (1-6) allowed five runs on eight hits and a walk with four strikeouts in 5.1 innings, taking the loss versus Minnesota on Monday.

Impact The southpaw yielded solo home runs to Jorge Polanco and Byron Buxton in the contest, making Monday the third time in 10 appearances he's yielded multiple homers. Allen wasn't all that effective when he kept the ball down either, leading to the worst of his three appearances since he rejoined the big-league roster. He's at a 6.86 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 27:15 K:BB through 40.2 innings this year. Allen and Eli Morgan are the likeliest candidates to lose their starting roles after Aaron Civale (finger) returns from the injured list Tuesday, unless Cleveland switches to a six-man rotation.

Impact Allen's solid work over his past two starts (2.13 ERA, 0.71 WHIP in 12.2 innings) looks like it'll be enough for him to stick in the rotation for at least one turn, even with Aaron Civale (finger) expected to return from the 60-day injured list to make a start later in the four-game series with Minnesota. Unless Cleveland expands its rotation to six men once Civale is officially reinstated from the IL, however, Allen could be bound for the bullpen after Monday's outing.

Effective in no-decision Allen allowed three runs (two earned) on five hits and two walks while striking out three across 6.2 innings in a no-decision against Kansas City on Wednesday.

Impact The left-handed hurler needed only 76 pitches (47 of which were strikes) to get through 6.2 frames, and he finished with his second straight quality start after failing to record such an effort in his first seven outings of the campaign. Allen didn't fool many hitters, inducing only six swinging strikes and tallying a mere three punchouts, but a fourth-inning solo homer by Adalberto Mondesi was the only extra-base hit he allowed. Over his past two starts, Allen has allowed just three earned runs and six hits across 12.2 frames. It remains to be seen if he'll remain in the rotation, however, as Triston McKenzie was activated from the injured list Wednesday and is slated to start against the Royals on Thursday.
