Impact All seven of Allen's big-league appearances this season have come as a starter, but it looks as though he'll pitch out of the bullpen for now, as it was reliever Francisco Perez who was optioned in a corresponding move. Allen has fared very poorly in 61 major-league innings thus far in his career, striking out just 13.7 percent of opposing batters en route to a 6.79 ERA. In 22.2 innings this season, his ERA sits all the way up at 9.13.

Impact Allen started Monday's game against Tampa Bay and allowed five runs on seven hits and two walks in 3.1 innings. He didn't strike out any batters and didn't factor into the decision. The southpaw has now allowed at least four earned runs in four of his last five starts, and he posted a lackluster 9.13 ERA and 1.81 WHIP in 22.2 innings across seven starts during the first half of the season. He'll attempt to right the ship in the minors, while right-hander DJ Johnson's contract was selected as part of a corresponding move.

Impact Most of the damage against Allen came on Brandon Lowe's grand slam in the second inning. The 24-year-old had taken a loss in his previous four outings but he maintained his 1-5 record Monday. It's unclear if Allen will get another turn in the rotation before the All-Star break.
