Impact Farmer tallied his second three-hit game this week. His home run came in the 11th inning off Ben Bowden to give the Reds a two-run lead. The 30-year-old isn't hitting very well on a day-to-day basis, but he is receiving more playing time due to Joey Votto (thumb) being on the 10-day injured list. Farmer is slashing .241/.337/.337 with two home runs, nine RBI and 11 runs in 95 plate appearances.

Impact Joey Votto's (thumb) recent move to the injured list has indirectly opened up an everyday role at shortstop for Farmer. With Mike Moustakas moving across the diamond to cover first base while Votto is out, Eugenio Suarez has shifted over to third base to allow Farmer to step in at shortstop. Farmer will be making his fourth straight start at the position Tuesday, but he shouldn't attract much interest outside of NL-only formats. Farmer is hitting .210/.329/.290 on the season and will likely regularly fill a bottom-third spot in the batting order.

He drew starts in the infield in four of the past five games, going 4-for-12 while reaching base at a .429 clip over that span. Though Farmer looks like the Reds' top utility infielder, he may not get the chance to play regularly at the keystone while India remains out. Nick Senzel will pick up his second start of the season at second base, and he could eventually settle in as the Reds' primary option at the position if manager David Bell wants to trot out his most potent lineup.
