No structural damage in elbow
Crawford has been diagnosed with inflammation in his right elbow following an MRI, Tim Healey of The Boston Globe reports.
Impact
Crawford had to be pulled off his rehab assignment when he developed soreness in his pitching arm during his first rehab outing. He has managed to avoid structural damage, however, and hopes to resume throwing "soon" after a brief shutdown period. Crawford hasn't pitched at the major-league level since 2024 because of injury.

Update expected Sunday
Crawford's (forearm) status is expected to be updated Sunday, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports.
Impact
Crawford underwent an MRI late this week after dealing with soreness in his forearm during a rehab assignment. He's still awaiting his doctor's assessment, but it sounds as if a follow-up is scheduled for Sunday.

Will undergo further testing
Manager Alex Cora said Friday that Crawford (wrist/forearm) will likely require an MRI on his injured forearm, Chris Henrique of BostonSportsJournal.com reports.
Impact
Cora initially said Crawford probably wouldn't require imaging, but Crawford is still feeling sore after he was pulled off his rehab assignment Wednesday. The right-hander missed the entirety of the 2025 season with a right wrist injury that required surgery.

Dealing with sore forearm
Manager Alex Cora said Tuesday that Crawford (wrist) was pulled off his rehab assignment due to forearm soreness, Tim Healey of The Boston Globe reports.
Impact
The right-hander is working his way back from the wrist surgery he underwent last summer, but that progression will be paused for a bit. Cora said that Crawford won't require an MRI, so there doesn't appear to be much concern for the forearm issue. He could resume his rehab assignment sometime next week.

Pulled off rehab assignment
The Red Sox have pulled Crawford (wrist) off his rehab assignment at Triple-A Worcester, Tim Healey of The Boston Globe reports.
Impact
Crawford made one start for Worcester, permitting five runs on six hits and one walk while striking out five over three innings. He's working his way back from right wrist surgery which he had last summer, though it's unclear at this point whether the setback is related to that or something else. The Red Sox should have more on Crawford's status soon.

Kicks off rehab assignment
Crawford (wrist) allowed five runs on six hits and one walk while striking out five over three innings in a rehab start for Triple-A Worcester on Saturday.
Impact
Crawford began a rehab assignment with notable rust, but it wasn't all bad for the right-hander. He gave up three home runs, but was around the zone (43 strikes among 60 pitches). The Red Sox are expected to use up all the rehab time available to evaluate Crawford, who last pitched in 2024, before making a decision as to his next step.

Closing in on rehab assignment
Crawford (wrist) is on track to begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Worcester this weekend, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports.
Impact
Crawford is set to throw a bullpen session Wednesday, and as long as he gets through that without any setbacks, he'll be cleared to take the ball for the WooSox. It would be the first time Crawford has pitched in a game since he underwent right wrist surgery last summer. The righty will need a few rehab outings, and he could remain with Worcester rather than rejoin the Red Sox after the rehab assignment is over.

Nearing rehab start
Red Sox manager Alex Cora said Wednesday that Crawford (wrist) is expected to make his first minor-league rehab start in about two weeks, MLB.com reports.
Impact
Per Christopher Smith of MassLive.com, Crawford threw four innings in a simulated game Monday at the Red Sox's spring training facility, but the right-hander looks like he'll continue to build up in Florida a little while longer before joining an affiliate. Meanwhile, fellow rehabbing pitcher Patrick Sandoval (elbow) is set to begin a rehab assignment Tuesday at Double-A Portland, and he would appear to be on track to beat Crawford back from the 15-day injured list. The Red Sox don't have room in the big-league rotation for either pitcher at the moment, so Crawford -- who has two minor-league options remaining -- could be assigned to Triple-A Worcester once he completes his rehab assignment and gets activated from the IL.

Bound for 15-day IL
The Red Sox placed Crawford (wrist) on the 15-day injured list Wednesday.
Impact
Crawford didn't make any appearances in the Grapefruit League while completing his recovery from the right wrist surgery he underwent last July. However, the right-hander was able to cover a few innings in a minor-league spring training game earlier this week, so he could be ready to head out on an extended rehab assignment shortly after the minor-league season gets underway. Crawford isn't expected to be ready to return from the IL until late April or early May, and it's not clear if he'll be in line for a spot in the Boston rotation once he gets activated.

Throwing live batting practice
Crawford (wrist/illness) will throw a live batting practice session Friday, Tim Healey of The Boston Globe reports.
Impact
It will be the first time the right-hander has faced hitters since he suffered a wrist injury last summer that required surgery. Crawford has bee brought along slowly in Red Sox camp because of the recovery from wrist surgery and also a bout with the flu. He appears likely to begin the season on the injured list, though the Red Sox have not confirmed as much yet.

Could begin season on injured list
Crawford (wrist/illness) could begin the season on the injured list, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports.
Impact
Crawford is behind other pitchers in Red Sox camp following last year's right wrist surgery and also a recent bout with the flu. He's throwing off the mound, but with several other candidates to fill the last spot in their rotation, the Red Sox could choose to slow-play Crawford after he missed the entire 2025 campaign. Crawford made 33 starts for Boston in 2024, posting a 4.36 ERA and 175:51 K:BB over 183.2 innings.

Throws off mound
Crawford (wrist) threw off a mound Friday, Gabrielle Starr of the Boston Herald reports.
Impact
Crawford sat out the entire 2025 season while recovering from both a knee injury and surgery on his wrist. Friday marked the first time he's worked off a mound since going under the knife in July. The 29-year-old righty said Saturday that he is now fully healthy but is a bit behind schedule compared to his typical offseason progression, which may impact his chances of making the Red Sox's rotation immediately out of spring training.

Avoids arbitration with Red Sox
The Red Sox and Crawford (wrist) avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $2.75 million contract Tuesday, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports.
Impact
Crawford will receive the same salary in 2026 after he missed the entire 2025 season due to a knee injury and then right wrist surgery. The hurler is expected to be ready in time for Opening Day, though it's possible he's slow-played at the beginning of spring training. Assuming health, Crawford is set to compete for a spot in Boston's rotation.
