Whiffs five in spring outing Sunday Urias pitched 2.1 innings against Kansas City in Sunday's Cactus League contest, allowing five runs (one earned) on two hits and two walks while striking out five.

Impact The Dodgers' defense did little to help Urias get off to a smooth start Sunday, committing a pair of errors and a passed ball in the first inning. Though the southpaw was charged with five runs, only one was earned, and that came on a solo home run in the second frame. Urias is attempting to secure the fifth spot in the starting rotation heading into the campaign, and he has held his own so far, giving up two earned runs and striking out six over 6.1 spring innings.

Pitches three perfect frames Monday Urias held the White Sox scoreless and hitless over three innings in a Cactus League contest Monday. He struck out one batter.

Impact Per Eric Stephen of SBNation.com, Urias was originally scheduled to throw only two innings in the exhibition game, but he made it through the first two frames so efficiently (12 pitches) that he ended up going out for a third. Altogether, the left-hander tossed 26 pitches, retiring all nine batters he faced. Urias appears to have an inside track to a rotation spot to open the campaign, and he clearly helped strengthen his case with Monday's effort.

Impact Urias was praised by manager Dave Roberts for his physical conditioning upon arrival at spring training. While that's a common refrain for many players at this time of the season, it's still encouraging that Urias is on track physically. He's expected to be a key member of the Dodgers' rotation, though may have to compete with Tony Gonsolin and Dustin May for the role.

Impact Urias came into the game with two outs in the seventh inning with a runner on first and proceeded to immediately fan Yandy Diaz. Impact Manager Dave Roberts previously indicated the 24-year-old was available Wednesday for Game 2, but he never entered the contest with the Dodgers trailing throughout. Urias earned the win in Game 7 of the NLCS against the Braves on Sunday with three scoreless frames to close the game, so he'll be fully rested for his start Saturday. The left-hander has been stellar in four appearances this postseason with a 4-0 record, 0.56 ERA, 0.63 WHIP and 16:3 K:BB across 16 innings.
