Impact Rogers will now be away from the team for at least 15 days, but due to the fact that it is his throwing shoulder, it could be longer. Andres Machado was called up from Triple-A Rochester on Friday to take his spot in the bullpen.

Impact Rogers has given up seven runs across his past two starts and will now shift to the bullpen, where he'll likely fill a long-relief role. Aaron Sanchez was promoted to start Saturday and will remain in the rotation going forward.

Impact Rogers couldn't finish the fifth inning and departed the mound when the game was tied 2-2, but he was charged for Pittsburgh's third run -- an RBI single from Michael Chavis that scored Ke'Bryan Hayes -- and that was enough to hand him his first loss of the season. This clearly was a step in the wrong direction for the 27-year-old lefty compared to what he did in his debut against Atlanta when he gave up just one run over 5.1 innings of work.

Impact The unheralded lefty doesn't have the kind of raw stuff that turns scouts' heads, but Rogers just keeps getting the job done in the majors. The 27-year-old tossed 46 of 74 pitches for strikes and handcuffed a powerful Atlanta lineup completely after the first inning. Given all the injuries in the Nationals' rotation at the moment, Rogers has a chance to win a regular spot if he keeps producing. His next start is scheduled for Saturday in Pittsburgh.

Recalled ahead of start Rogers was recalled by the Nationals on Monday ahead of his season debut in Atlanta, Jesse Dougherty of The Washington Post reports.
Impact Rogers didn't win a spot in the Opening Day rotation but will nonetheless be needed for the fifth game of the year with Anibal Sanchez (neck) hitting the injured list. Rogers managed a 3.28 ERA in six starts last season, but his underlying numbers don't support that number at all. His 14.6 percent strikeout rate and 29.7 percent groundball rate were both far too low, and he's unlikely to have much success if he keeps allowing that much contact in the air. The lefty's 5.83 FIP and 6.00 xFIP give some idea of what can be expected if he doesn't start missing more bats, something his 15.6 percent strikeout rate at Triple-A last year suggests will be difficult to do.
