Impact As anticipated, the 23-year-old Miranda will receive his first call to the big leagues in the wake of Miguel Sano (knee) and Kyle Garlick (calf) landing on the 10-day injured list. Miranda has turned in a modest .737 OPS over 95 plate appearances at St. Paul this season, but he was named the Twins' minor league player of the year in 2021 after hitting .344 with 62 extra-base hits between stops at Triple-A and Double-A Wichita. Though he doesn't have a direct path to an everyday role with the big club, Miranda's ability to play three infield spots and potentially serve as a designated hitter should allow to pick up at least a handful of starts during his initial taste of the big leagues.

Miranda should help fill the void, even though he's had a somewhat disappointing start to the season at Triple-A with a .256/.295/.442 slash line across 95 plate appearances. However, the 23-year-old infielder was one of the top hitters in the minors in 2021, as he supplied 30 home runs and 32 doubles while hitting .344 between stops at St. Paul and Double-A Wichita. Expect the Twins to carve out a near-everyday role for Miranda while he's up in the majors, but he'll have to perform at a higher level than he did at Triple-A earlier this season in order to stick around permanently with the big club.

Impact Miranda got off to a relatively slow start at Triple-A St. Paul this year but has heated up recently and is in the midst of a six-game hitting streak. During that time, he's slashed .333/.375/.619 with a homer, three doubles, four runs and two RBI. The extent of Garlick's right calf tightness isn't yet known, but manager Rocco Baldelli said Sunday that the injury isn't "the most minor of occurrences." Miranda is among the Twins' top prospects and hasn't yet made his major-league debut despite slashing .344/.401/.572 with 30 homers, 97 runs, 94 RBI and four steals in the minors last year. Miranda was off to a slow start at Triple-A (hitting .256 with a .737 OPS), but is hitting .300/.351/.520 with a homer in his last 57 plate appearances. Impact Miranda entered spring training with an outside shot to win a role in the majors, but a callup in the near future now looks very unlikely. Miranda's slow start in the minors isn't anything to be overly concerned about given the small sample size, although he's striking out a tad more (16.5% K%), but he's not forcing the issue to be called up. Meanwhile, the Twins are getting decent production at third base between Luis Arraez and Gio Urshela. An injury in the majors could always change the equation, but Miranda will likely need to put in a long hot stretch at Triple-A before getting consideration.

Impact Miranda sustained a bruised jaw last weekend, but he wasn't forced to miss additional time due to the injury. The 23-year-old went 3-for-12 with three RBI, a run, a walk and a strikeout across eight Grapefruit League games this spring. While he'll begin the season in the minors, he's a strong candidate to be called up fairly early in the regular season after he slashed .343/.397/.563 with 17 homers, 61 runs and 56 RBI across 80 games in St. Paul last year.

Impact Miranda left Friday's game against the Pirates with a bruised jaw after getting struck in the face by an errant throw, but he avoided serious injury. He's back in action just one day later, so he should be able to continue making his push for an Opening Day roster spot. Whether or not he'll be given a legitimate chance to break camp with the team is unclear, but he could eventually be part of the plan to replace Josh Donaldson at third base.

Impact As Miranda was one of the most statistically impressive hitters in the minors last season, his protection from the Rule 5 draft was a cinch. He hit .343/.397/.563 with 17 home runs in 80 games at Triple-A and appears to be big-league ready. Miranda can play second base and third base and could also get some looks at designated hitter in 2022.
