INJURIES

Lasts only three innings Tuesday Berrios dropped to 8-7 after giving up four runs on nine hits while striking out six over three innings Tuesday in the Blue Jays' 5-2 loss to the White Sox.
Impact Though Berrios ended his night on a high note by striking out the final three batters he faced, he couldn't dig himself out of an early hole. After allowing back-to-back base hits to Luis Robert and Yoan Moncada to begin the game, Berrios served up a three-run home run to Jose Abreu. He would go on to allow another run in the top of the first before righting the ship thereafter, but because Berrios was already up to 68 pitches after three innings, manager Charlie Montoyo elected to pull the plug on the right-hander. Berrios has now submitted a 4.81 ERA and 1.64 WHIP in five starts with the Blue Jays since joining the team ahead of the July 30 trade deadline.

Settles for no-decision Wednesday Berrios didn't factor into the decision in Wednesday's 8-5 loss to the Nationals, allowing three runs (two earned) on five hits and three walks over five innings. He struck out thr...
Impact The right-hander served up a three-run shot to Juan Soto in the first inning, but he settled down after that and gave the Jays a chance to rally -- which they did in the top of the seventh inning, getting Berrios off the hook for the loss, but Brad Hand promptly gave the game away in the bottom of the frame. Through four starts for Toronto since coming over from Minnesota at the trade deadline, Berrios has a 3.80 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 19:8 K:BB through 21.1 innings.

Struggles early in loss to Angels Berrios (8-6) gave up six runs on eight hits and four walks over 4.1 innings in a loss to the Angels on Thursday. He had three strikeouts.
Impact Berrios both struggled with his control and allowed a fair amount of hard contact on the way to his first loss as a Blue Jay. He was able to pitch out of a bases-loaded, one-out jam in the first inning, but he couldn't avoid trouble again in the second when the Angels struck for four runs. Berrios was ultimately chased from the game with one out in the fifth, matching his shortest start of the season, which happened way back on April 14. Berrios is tentatively slated to make his next start on the road against the Nationals.

Strikes out six in quality start Berrios allowed one run on five hits and struck out six over six innings en route to a no-decision in Saturday's 2-1 loss to the Red Sox.
Impact Berrios recorded his third consecutive quality start Saturday night, as he was his usual stellar self through six innings. The only stain on his outing came via a game-tying solo home run off the bat of Alex Verdugo in the sixth. Berrios didn't issue a walk to the Red Sox all night, as the Puerto Rican right-hander has now given just two free passes in his last four starts. Berrios has also been stingy with regards to earned runs, having allowed just one in his last three outings. He'll likely toe the rubber again Friday against the Mariners.

Stellar in Blue Jays debut Berrios (8-5) earned the win Sunday against the Royals after tossing six scoreless innings, allowing five hits and a walk while fanning seven.
Impact Berrios was absolutely stellar in his Toronto debut, as he tossed 64 of his 95 pitches for strikes and only allowed one runner to reach scoring position through the first five innings. He escaped from a bases-loaded jam in the sixth before departing the contest, and he ended up posting a strong outing across the board. Berrios now has two straight scoreless outings after posting a 4.68 ERA between July 1 and July 19.

Making Blue Jays debut Sunday Berrios cleared intake protocols and will make his Blue Jays debut Sunday versus the Royals, Scott Mitchell of TSN.ca reports.
Impact The right-hander lined up to pitch Friday for the Twins before being traded to the Blue Jays, and he'll debut for his new team just two days later. Berrios posted a 3.48 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 126:32 K:BB over 121.2 innings (20 starts) for Minnesota this season, and he'll attempt to continue that form with Toronto.

JULY 30, 2021 • NORTHJERSEY.COM
Traded to Toronto Berrios was traded from the Twins to the Blue Jays in exchange for Austin Martin and Simeon Woods Richardson on Friday, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports.
Impact The Blue Jays get the best remaining available starter to help them down the stretch in the very competitive AL East. He'll also be under contract through the end of next season. Berrios has been a step below the league's best pitchers throughout his career, but he's still a very useful arm, posting a 3.76 ERA over the last five years and a 3.48 mark this season. He's not an elite strikeout weapon, but his 25.7 percent strikeout rate this season represents a career high. The trade should help the righty somewhat in terms of wins, as he'll be supported by a loaded Blue Jays lineup, though he'll go from pitching in one of the league's weakest divisions to one of its strongest.
