INJURIES

Removed for pinch hitter Lawlar started at shortstop and went 0-for-2 with a strikeout before he was removed for a pinch hitter in Monday's 4-3 win over the Mets.
Impact Lawlar returned to the lineup after a one-day break due to a minor hand injury. The right-handed hitter was pinch hit for in the sixth inning against righty reliever Sean Reid-Foley, the first time manager Torey Lovullo has removed the young shortstop from a game. Lawlar is hitless over the last 11 at-bats with seven strikeouts.

Checks back into lineup Lawlar (hand) will start at shortstop and bat eighth in Monday's game against the Mets.
Impact Arizona will get both of its starting middle infielders back for the series opener at Citi Field after both Lawlar and second baseman Ketel Marte (knee) exited the lineup for Sunday's 5-2 loss to the Cubs. The Diamondbacks' top prospect has gotten off to a slow start since being called up from Triple-A Reno last week, going 1-for-11 with no walks and six strikeouts.
SEPTEMBER 11, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Sitting Sunday Lawlar (hand) is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Cubs.
Impact The rookie shortstop exited Saturday's contest after being hit by a pitch on his right hand, though according to Steve Gilbert of MLB.com, manager Torey Luvollo said Lawlar's hand is fine and he's simply receiving a day off. Geraldo Perdomo will shift to shortstop while Emmanuel Rivera starts at the hot corner.

Bats second, HBP Lawlar batted second and was hit by a pitch on a knuckle of his right hand in Saturday's 3-2 extra-inning win over the Cubs, Theo Mackie of the Arizona Republic reports. He remaine...
Impact Lawlar, who was hit by a pitch in the top of the 10th inning, stayed in the game and eventually scored the game-winning run. He also made a nice defensive play in the bottom of the 10th, but the Diamondbacks are awaiting results of imaging conducted following the game before making a determination of his status for the series finale Sunday. The prospect made a third consecutive start since being promoted from Triple-A Reno, and manager Torey Lovullo moved him up the batting order against a left-hander. Lawlar batted eighth in his first two starts, which came against right-handers. He has one hit in 11 at-bats and struck out six times over 12 plate appearances.

Starts again Lawlar started at shortstop and went 0-for-3 in Friday's 1-0 win over the Cubs.
Impact Lawlar made a second consecutive start after getting called up Thursday. It was a version of the lineup that Arizona manager Torey Lovullo described as "where I'm at right now," to Theo Mackie of the Arizona Republic. "I definitely had some options, but I just feel like for right now, I wanted to lean on him a little bit and continue to do so," the manager said. It sounds like Lawlar will be a near-everyday starter.

Makes MLB debut Lawlar started at shortstop and went 1-for-4 in Thursday's 6-2 win over the Cubs.
Impact Lawlar was promoted from Triple-A Reno ahead of Thursday's series-opener and made his MLB debut. He collected his first hit in the fourth inning, beating out an infield grounder to third base, and made a couple of nifty plays in the field. Of note, the Diamondbacks faced a right-hander. Prior to Lawlar's promotion, that typically meant the switch hitting Geraldo Perdomo at shortstop and a rotation of lefty-batters at third base. That changed Thursday, when the right-handed hitting Lawlar started at short and Perdomo moved to third base, which suggests these two may make up the left side of the infield going forward, regardless of the handedness of that day's starter.

Promotion official Arizona selected Lawlar's contract from Triple-A Reno ahead of his major-league debut Thursday against the Cubs.
Impact Lawlar has officially arrived in the majors at age 21, almost exactly 26 months after being selected sixth overall in the 2021 MLB Draft out of a Dallas high school. He caught fire toward the end of his run this summer with Double-A Amarillo and carried that over into a .358/.438/.612 slash line in 80 plate appearances at the Triple-A level. Lawlar will play shortstop and bat eighth in his debut for the Diamondbacks on Thursday as Geraldo Perdomo slides over to third base.

D-backs promote top prospect Jordan Lawlar for stretch run
Getting call to majors Lawlar will be promoted to the majors ahead of Thursday's series opener against the Cubs, Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic reports.
Impact Lawlar made the jump from Double-A Amarillo to Triple-A Reno in mid-August and has since produced an eye-popping .358/.438/.612 batting line in 80 plate appearances. Overall this season between Double-A and Triple-A, he's put up an .874 OPS with 20 homers and 36 steals across 105 games. Selected as the No. 6 overall pick in the 2021 MLB Draft out of a Dallas high school, the 21-year-old should get regular starts on the Diamondbacks' infield down the stretch as they try to claim one of the three NL Wild Card spots. Lawlar has almost exclusively played shortstop in the minors, but Arizona is most in need of help at third base.
SEPTEMBER 6, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Makes impression at Triple-A Lawlar went 1-for-4 with two walks, a home run, four RBI and an additional run scored for Triple-A Reno on Tuesday.
Impact Lawlar made a splash in his first game at the Triple-A level. He belted a 420-foot, two-run homer in his second plate appearance and later walked with the bases loaded twice. He was scheduled to debut for the Aces on Monday, per Jesse Borek of MLB.com, but there were flight issues -- cancelled flight, lost bags -- so his introduction waited until Tuesday. The shortstop was promoted over the weekend after hitting .263/.366/.471 with 15 home runs and 33 steals for Double-A Amarillo.
AUGUST 16, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Heading to Triple-A Lawlar was promoted to Triple-A Reno on Sunday, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports.
Impact Lawlar began the 2022 campaign at Double-A Amarillo and was a well-rounded contributor, slashing .263/.366/.471 with 15 homers, 77 runs, 48 RBI and 33 stolen bases in 89 games. The 18-year-old will now be one step away from the majors and could be in the mix to be called up late in 2023 or early in 2024 if he performs well with the Triple-A club.
AUGUST 14, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Locked in at Double-A Lawlar only has eight strikeouts in his last 16 games for Double-A Amarillo and is hitting .368 with three home runs and five steals in 68 at-bats over that stretch.
Impact Something has seemingly clicked for Lawlar, as he had a 31.7 percent strikeout rate in his first 32 games of the season and has an 11 percent strikeout rate over his last 16 games. The 20-year-old shortstop's .286 BABIP and early-season strikeout woes are suppressing his season numbers, but he is still on track for a 20/30 season and should get a promotion to Triple-A this summer if his current plate skills hold.

Org stays positive amid slump Diamondbacks general manager Mike Hazen is not bothered by Lawlar's slump to start the season at Double-A Amarillo, Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports. The shortstop and...
Impact Hazen said he prefers if all prospects could be like Corbin Carroll but spun Lawlar's struggles as a positive, noting the adversity gives a young player a chance to adjust and figure it out. "It's probably more approach, pitch selection, how he's being pitched," Hazen said. Specifically, the organization is focused on his reaction to pitches on the inner half, trying to keep the ball away from him and using the entire field. One bright note is that slump has not affected Lawlar's defense, which Hazen noted has been "exceptional."
MAY 24, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Struggling at Double-A Lawlar has returned to action after missing a few days for Double-A Amarillo with a wrist injury.
Impact The 20-year-old shortstop is hitting .162/.296/.342 with five home runs and 10 steals in 32 games. Dating back to last year, Lawlar has a .183/.297/.347 slash line and 73:30 K:BB in 52 games at Double-A. He has a high power/speed ceiling, but legitimate hit tool concerns are starting to emerge. His .203 BABIP this season is a sign of some misfortune, and his 29.7 percent linedrive rate, 37.8 percent flyball rate and 29 percent hard-hit rate are all signs of strong quality of contact. Lawlar's stock has decreased this season, but there are reasons to expect his performance to trend up.

Suffers wrist injury Lawlar was removed from Tuesday's game for Double-A Amarillo after getting hit in the right wrist, Theo Mackie of the Arizona Republic reports.
Impact A team spokesperson said x-rays came back negative, and Lawlar is considered day-to-day. One of Arizona's top prospects, Lawlar is scuffling with a .178 average and .669 OPS.

Plays hero in comeback Lawlar went 2-for-4 with a home run and four RBI for Double-A Amarillo in Wednesday's comeback win over Frisco.
Impact Lawlar figured prominently in the Sod Poodles' improbable comeback. With Amarillo trailing 11-1 in the seventh inning, Lawler jacked a three-run homer to begin the comeback. The team scored another seven runs in the eighth before Lawlar walked off the RoughRiders with a single in the 10th. The Diamondbacks' highly regarded shortstop prospect has an .835 OPS with four homers, two doubles, 12 RBI, six steals and nine runs through 15 games.

Shut down after HBP Lawlar will miss the next 6-to-8 weeks after being struck by a pitch Friday and suffering a fractured left scapula, Sam Dykstra of MLB.com reports.
Impact This injury shouldn't impact Lawlar's availability for the start of spring training, but it's certainly disappointing to see his fall season cut short. He was playing great ball in the Arizona Fall League prior to the injury, as he was batting .278 with two home runs, seven RBI, four stolen bases and nine runs scored across 11 contests with Salt River.

Flashing in Arizona Fall League Lawlar hit just .212/.299/.353 over 20 games in Double-A to wrap up the 2022 regular season, but he's impressed through six contests in the Arizona Fall League, smashing two homers...
Impact It's well worth keeping in mind the context of Lawlar's small sample of Double-A struggles -- this is a 20-year-old kid who was on his second promotion of the season after opening in Single-A. Lawlar's overall line is a far more accurate indicator of his potential: .303/.401/.509 with 16 home runs, 39 steals and a 57:115 BB:K. He'll need to clip that strikeout rate a bit and show more power in the high minors, but Lawlar certainly looks the part of a future All-Star. Arizona probably won't rush him to the big leagues, so look for him to spend much of 2023 in Double-A, with a mid-to-late-season promotion to Triple-A if he excels as expected.

Adjusting to High-A Lawlar went 2-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored for High-A Hillsboro on Saturday.
Impact After initial struggles following his promotion from Single-A Visalia, Lawlar has found a groove with multiple hits in three of the last seven games for the High-A affiliate. He's 9-for-32 (.281) with four doubles, two RBI and six runs scored during that stretch.
