D-backs giving Lawlar chance to grow defensively For the second straight winter, Diamondbacks prospect Jordan Lawlar found himself in the Dominican Republic during the offseason. Last year...

Plays center field in winter ball Lawlar played center field Tuesday in his first game with Tigres del Licey in the Dominican Winter League.
Impact Lawlar has never played the outfield as a pro, but he's being introduced to center field in winter ball as the Diamondbacks evaluate how the 23-year-old fits into their roster picture for 2026. The former top prospect is a shortstop by trade, but that position is being held down by Geraldo Perdomo with the big club. Lawlar played some third base down the stretch for the Diamondbacks and could man that spot in 2026, but the outfield is also an option if he shows he can handle it.

Heading to winter ball Lawlar will play winter ball in the Dominican Republic, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports.
Impact The Diamondbacks need to find a home for Lawlar, who was drafted as a shortstop but is blocked at the position by Geraldo Perdomo. During his late-season call-up, Lawlar got work at third base, but shaky mechanics and footwork led to him being primarily a DH. In winter ball, he's expected to get regular reps at third base and in center field to determine if that can be an option in 2026.

Impact Lawlar walked off San Francisco with a bases-loaded, 44.7 mph check-swing roller to first base that was enough to get winning run in. He entered as a pinch hitter in the sixth inning and stayed in the as the designated hitter. The 23-year-old prospect has produced following an 0-for-30 run in the majors this season. Lashes double, scores in win Lawlar started at third base and went 1-for-3 with a double and a run scored in Sunday's 6-4 win over the Twins.
Impact Lawlar lined a double to left field and scored in the Diamondbacks' three-run fourth inning. He hasn't been an everyday member of the starting lineup, but that could change in the short term after Blaze Alexander (elbow) was removed from Sunday's game. Testing on Alexander's elbow came back negative, but it was very swollen postgame, per Steve Gilbert of MLB.com. He'll undergo further testing Monday and is day-to-day heading into that night's series opener against the Giants. Lawlar stands to benefit from any time Alexander misses, as those two have shared third base since the beginning of the month.

Picks up first steal of season Lawlar went 1-for-4 with one RBI and one stolen base in Sunday's 7-4 loss to the Red Sox.
Impact Lawlar picked up his first steal this year at the major-league level after his RBI single in the seventh inning. The infield prospect has played regularly against southpaws but has also been in the lineup versus two of the last four right-handers the Diamondbacks have faced. Lawlar has yet to hit his way into a larger role, batting .098 with two RBI, three runs scored, two doubles and no home runs over 15 games in the majors this season, though his bat is coming around with four hits over his last four games.

Returns to starting nine Lawlar started at third base and went 1-for-3 with a double, an RBI and a run scored in Friday's 10-5 win over Boston.
Impact Lawlar, who was given a day off after snapping an 0-for-36 run in the majors Tuesday, was back at third base. He's collected a pair of doubles, an RBI and scored three runs since ending the hitless streak. Arizona manager Torey Lovullo talked about Lawlar attacking earlier in counts as a factor in breaking the slump, and the infielder continued that Friday. Lawlar saw a total of 11 pitches in his four plate appearances, one of which was a six-pitch at-bat and two where he swung at the first pitch.

Taking seat Wednesday Lawlar is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game versus the Rangers.
Impact Lawlar snapped a 0-for-36 hitless streak at the major-league level with a couple base knocks in Tuesday's win over the Rangers, but he finds himself absent from the lineup a day later. Blaze Alexander is occupying third base and batting sixth for the Diamondbacks.
SEPTEMBER 3 • ROTOWIRE
Snaps hitless run Lawlar went 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored in Tuesday's 5-3 win over the Rangers.
Impact A great weight was removed from Lawlar's shoulders when he doubled in the fifth inning. That hit snapped an 0-for-31 streak in the majors this season and 0-for-36 going back to his first cup of big-league coffee in 2023. He followed up with a sharp single in the seventh inning, attacking a 1-1 sinker over the plate. Lawlar did not see a two-strike count, which is something manager Torey Lovullo talked about after the game with Alex Weiner of Arizona Sports. "?I know he's trying to do everything right and perfect, take pitches, see pitches, drive up pitch counts and different things," Lovullo said. "I went to him before the day started. I said, 'Go early if you need to go early, get your swing synced up.'" With the hitless burden out of the way, Lawlar may be more relaxed and confident going forward.

In lineup against right-hander Lawlar started at third base and went 0-for-4 in Sunday's 5-4 loss to the Dodgers.
Impact Lawlar was back in the lineup after getting a day off Saturday. The right-handed batter made two starts since his recent call-up, once against a lefty and Sunday's start against a righty. Arizona manager Torey Lovullo said over the weekend that he will mix-and-match Lawlar and Blaze Alexander at third base against righties but will use Lawlar against all lefties. He had a couple more strikeouts Sunday, upping his count to 14 over 30 plate appearances (46.7 percent) this season.

Not in Saturday's lineup Lawlar isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Dodgers.

AUGUST 30 • ROTOWIRE
Starts at third base Lawlar started at third base and went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts in Friday's 3-0 win over the Dodgers.
Impact Lawlar's three-K night continued a trend that was evident in his previous visits to majors: striking out a lot. In two brief stints with Arizona, he's been overwhelmed by the pitching, collecting 20 strikeouts over 56 plate appearances. HIs presence in the lineup resulted in Blaze Alexander, who had been the primary third baseman since the Eugenio Suarez trade, being moved to second base Friday while Ketel Marte served as the DH. Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo told Alex Weiner of Arizona Sports that Lawlar would see time on the left side of the infield while Alexander migrates around the field, including time in center field. The manager added that Lawlar will be in the lineup against every left-hander, and the club will mix-and-match against righties.
