Out indefinitely Manager Bruce Bochy said Saturday that Gray (wrist) will miss "extended time," Shawn McFarland of The Dallas Morning News reports.
Impact Early estimates have Gray sitting out roughly six weeks with a fractured right wrist, though nothing is set in stone at this point. While he's out, Kumar Rocker and Jack Leiter should both have a decent shot at making the Rangers' Opening Day rotation.

Texas Rangers starter Jon Gray fractures wrist after being hit by line drive vs. Colorado The Rangers have dealt with a recent spate of starting pitching injuries.
MARCH 15 • DALLASNEWS.COM
Fractures wrist Friday Gray was diagnosed with a fractured right wrist after getting hit by a comebacker during Friday's Cactus League game versus Colorado, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports.
Impact Gray took a 106.4-mph line drive off his wrist in the fourth inning of Friday's contest and was promptly removed from the game. Manager Bruce Bochy didn't provide an estimate for when the 33-year-old righty might return, but the injury will certainly cause him to miss a chunk of time to begin the regular season. With both Gray and Cody Bradford (elbow), set to miss Opening Day, there's a good chance that Kumar Rocker and Jack Leiter will both be part of Texas' initial rotation.

Hit by comebacker Gray was removed from Friday's Cactus League game against the Padres after getting hit on the right arm by a comebacker, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports.
Impact The Rangers haven't released any details regarding Gray's injury, though that will likely change once they're able to take a closer look at him. The 33-year-old has had a strong spring thus far, striking out five batters over eight shutout innings.

Being used as starter this spring Gray has made two starts this spring, tossing five scoreless innings with a 3:0 K:BB.
Impact There were reports earlier in the offseason that the Rangers might consider using Gray as a reliever and potentially a closer option. However, while it's possible the team might revisit the idea down the line, it fully intends to open the season with Gray as a member of its rotation. Gray posted a 4.47 ERA and 86:28 K:BB over 102.2 innings covering 19 starts and four relief appearances in 2024.

Makes second spring start Gray allowed four hits and struck out two over three scoreless innings in Sunday's spring start against Arizona.
Impact Gray worked around two hits in each of the first two innings before retiring the side in order in his final frame. The right-hander threw 40 pitches (29 for strikes). He also worked on mechanical issues during his second Cactus League start after experiencing a drop in velocity his first time out. As Gray described it to Shawn McFarland of the Dallas Morning News following Sunday's outing, he was standing "tall" on the mound, which means he kept his right leg straight instead of it buckling as he pushed forward to deliver the ball. Gray's fastball averaged 93.7 mph during his first start; it averaged 94.4 on Sunday.
MARCH 3 • ROTOWIRE
Low-pressure spring debut Gray threw two scoreless innings, striking out one in Monday's spring game against the White Sox.
Impact Texas plated nine runs in the top of the first, making it a pressure-free day for Gray, who set down all six batters faced. He threw mostly fastballs and sliders among his 26 pitches while mixing in one curveball, a pitch he threw just 74 times in 2024. He told MLB.com that he's working on throwing the curve for strikes so that it can be a useful pitch instead of having batters lay off it and wait for a fastball.

Preparing as starter Texas manager Bruce Bochy said Saturday that the team is thinking of Gray as a starter, Kennedi Landry of MLB.com reports. Recent rumors and reports suggested the Rangers are consi...
Impact Gray confirmed that he hasn't been approached by anyone in the organization about the possibility of being a closer or reliever, although the pitcher said he'd do whatever is best for the club. "[Gray closing], it's not in our focus right now," Bochy said. "During the season, as always, you make adjustments. I'm not saying that we plan on doing it, but you've got to figure ways to make a team better." The 33-year-old right-hander, who spent three separate occasions on the injured list in 2024, was good out of the bullpen in a small sample size. Gray allowed one run across 5.2 relief innings against the Astros and Diamondbacks on the way to Texas winning the World Series in 2023.
