INJURIES

Getting hit hard Cannon has allowed six earned runs across five innings in Cactus League action.
Impact Cannon has made two starts in the exhibition season, with his latest start coming Thursday. He allowed three home runs across three innings in that outing. The one positive is that Cannon has a 4:0 K:BB, and he is locked into a rotation spot to begin the regular season.
MARCH 8 • ROTOWIRE
Locked into rotation spot White Sox manager Will Venable said Wednesday that Cannon will open the season in the club's rotation, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports.
Impact The revelation doesn't come as a surprise, as Cannon made 21 starts (23 appearances in total) for the White Sox last season and was serviceable, collecting a 4.49 ERA and 91:40 K:BB over 124.1 innings. Cannon might even start Opening Day, although Martin Perez and Davis Martin -- who Venable also named to the rotation Wednesday -- could be candidates, as well. The 24-year-old Cannon is not a desirable fantasy target.

Earns fifth win Cannon (5-10) earned the win Sunday, allowing four runs on four hits and three walks over five innings against the Tigers. He struck out three.
Impact Cannon was staked with a rare 5-0 lead and carried it into the fifth but three walks in the inning led to a two-out grand slam by Kerry Carpenter that spoiled Cannon's final line. Despite the disappointing end to his outing, the White Sox later provided four additional insurance runs and Cannon was able to escape with his fifth win in 15 decisions. The 24-year-old righty finished his initial big-league campaign making 21 starts among 23 appearances, posting a 4.49 ERA and 1.33 WHIP with 91 strikeouts across 124.1 innings.
SEPTEMBER 30, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
No-decision in pitchers' duel Cannon came away with a no-decision in Tuesday's 3-2 win over the Angels, allowing three hits and a walk over six scoreless innings. He struck out seven.
Impact The rookie right-hander traded goose eggs with Jack Kochanowicz for six frames before Cannon left the game after 78 pitches (49 strikes). The seven strikeouts tied his career high, a mark he's reached three times in 2024 including his two most recent outings, and in four September start he's posted an impressive 3.04 ERA, 0.97 WHIP and 22:5 K:BB over 23.2 innings. Cannon is scheduled to make one more start this season, on the road Sunday in Detroit.
SEPTEMBER 25, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Allows two homers in win Cannon (4-10) allowed four runs on three hits and two walks while striking out seven over 6.2 innings to earn the win over the Angels on Monday.
Impact Cannon gave up solo home runs to Eric Wagaman and Charles Leblanc, and the Angels scraped together two more runs in the seventh to chase Cannon from the game. While the rookie right-hander has allowed at least three runs in six of his last eight starts, he's picked up three wins in that span as one of the White Sox's more effective starters. He's at a 4.61 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and 81:36 K:BB through 113.1 innings over 21 appearances (19 starts) this season. He's projected to make his next start at San Diego.
SEPTEMBER 17, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Suffers 10th loss Cannon (3-10) took the loss Tuesday, allowing three runs on seven hits and one walk over 5.1 innings against Cleveland. He struck out four.
Impact Cannon picked up his fifth loss out of his last six starts with this 91-pitch appearance. The 24-year-old rookie fared well through the first five innings, scattering six hits that produced one run, before unraveling in the sixth. He left two runners on via a walk and single that were promptly driven home when reliever Gus Varland yielded a homer to his first batter faced, Lane Thomas. Cannon has now failed to reach five strikeouts in six consecutive starts, during which he's struggled to a 6.16 ERA, 1.70 WHIP and 23:14 K:BB across 30.2 innings. He is projected to make his next outing against the Angels in Los Angeles next week.
SEPTEMBER 11, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Snaps losing streak Cannon (3-9) earned the win Wednesday over the Orioles, allowing one run on five hits and a walk over 5.2 innings. He struck out four.
Impact Cannon's night got off to a rocky start after he allowed a homer to Gunnar Henderson to lead off the bottom of the first inning. However, the right-hander would keep Baltimore off the board for the remainder of his outing, allowing just four more hits en route to his first win since August 6. The 24-year-old Cannon had struggled to a 7.78 ERA in four starts (19.2 innings) coming into Wednesday. His ERA now sits at 4.53 with a 1.39 WHIP and 70:33 K:BB across 101.1 innings in his rookie campaign. Cannon's currently lined up for a home matchup with the Guardians in his next outing.
SEPTEMBER 5, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Saddled with fourth straight loss Cannon (2-9) took the loss Friday as the White Sox fell 5-1 to the Mets, giving up four runs on five hits and four walks over five innings. He struck out three.
Impact The big blow off the right-hander was a two-run homer by J.D. Martinez in the third inning, but Cannon wasn't sharp as he got only 48 of his 92 pitches into the strike zone. The 24-year-old has lost four straight starts, and through five outings in August he's stumbled to a 6.31 ERA, 1.79 WHIP and 20:14 K:BB through 25.2 innings. Things don't get any easier for Cannon, as he lines up to make his next start on the road next week in Baltimore.
AUGUST 31, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Unravels against Tigers Cannon (2-8) yielded five runs on eight hits and four walks over four-plus innings Sunday, striking out four and taking a loss against Detroit.
Impact Cannon escaped a bases-loaded jam in the first inning but things got worse from there. He gave up a run in each of the third and fourth innings before falling apart; he put four straight Tigers on base without recording an out in the fifth inning and was charged with three more runs. Cannon was handed his third straight loss and saw his ERA jump to 4.57 across 90.2 innings. He's 1-6 with a 4.93 ERA over his last eight outings. Cannon is projected for a home matchup against the Mets next weekend.
AUGUST 26, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Yields five runs in loss Cannon (2-7) allowed five runs on eight hits and a walk while striking out four over six innings to take the loss Monday versus the Giants.
Impact The Giants rallied for four runs in the fifth inning, and Matt Chapman lifted a solo home run in the sixth. Cannon had allowed no more than four runs in his previous eight starts, so this was a step backward for him, especially considering San Francisco's struggles on offense. Cannon is now at a 4.26 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 59:24 K:BB through 86.2 innings over 16 appearances (14 starts) this year. He's projected for a home start versus the Tigers this weekend.
AUGUST 20, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Back in loss column Tuesday Cannon (2-6) allowed three runs on five hits and three walks while striking out four over 4.2 innings to take the loss Tuesday versus the Yankees.
Impact Cannon was responsible for two of the three home runs Juan Soto hit in this contest. It was the first time since June 29 that Cannon has given up multiple homers, and the three runs allowed were his most in four outings. He's now at a 4.02 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 55:23 K:BB through 80.2 innings over 15 appearances (13 starts). He's tentatively scheduled to make his next start on the road in San Francisco.
AUGUST 14, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Picks up second win Cannon (2-5) earned the win over the Athletics on Tuesday, allowing one run on six hits and two walks while striking out five over six innings.
Impact Cannon was finally able to pick up his first win since June 18 despite allowing three runs or fewer in five of his eight starts since then. Tuesday was his sixth straight start going at least six innings and his five strikeouts were the most in a start since he had seven June 12. Though the strikeout numbers aren't much, Cannon's ability to throw strikes and work deep into games has been huge for the White Sox rotation that hasn't been able to get much length outside of his starts, The 23-year-old rookie owns a 3.91 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 51:20 K:BB in 76 innings and lines up to face the Yankees next week.
AUGUST 7, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Strong start wasted Tuesday Cannon came away with a no-decision in Tuesday's 4-3 loss to the Royals, allowing one run on one hit and three walks over seven innings. He struck out two.
Impact The rookie right-hander put together one of his best starts so far in the majors, exiting the game with a 2-1 lead after tossing 94 pitches (59 strikes), but the White Sox bullpen immediately fell apart in the top of the eighth inning. Cannon gave Chicago six or more innings in all five of his July starts, posting a 3.48 ERA and 1.23 WHIP through 31 innings on the month despite a poor 14:11 K:BB, and he's establishing himself as one of the most reliable rotation options on a rebuilding club. He's scheduled to make his next start on the road early next week in Oakland.

JULY 31, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Stuck with loss Cannon (1-5) took the loss Thursday against the Rangers, allowing two runs on eight hits and two walks over six innings. He struck out one.
Impact Cannon was excellent at limiting damage, inducing three double plays and turning in his fourth quality start of the year despite tying his season low in strikeouts. The rookie entered Thursday's outing having not allowed a home run in three straight starts but that streak was broken in the third inning when Marcus Semien lifted a solo homer. In eight starts since being recalled from Triple-A on June 7, Cannon has a 3.88 ERA with a 27:11 K:BB across 46.1 innings. He's on pace to face the Royals on Tuesday.

JULY 25, 2024 • MLB.COM
Completes six innings in loss Cannon allowed four runs on eight hits and no walks while striking out four batters over six innings in a loss to the Royals on Saturday.
Impact Cannon looked like he could be in for a short outing after giving up four runs through two frames, but he recovered thereafter and didn't allow any additional runners to score for the rest of his start. The right-hander completed exactly six innings for the third straight appearance, though he has just one quality start during that span. Cannon has been doing enough to maintain his spot in Chicago's rotation, but he hasn't been an impactful arm in fantasy, as he has an unimpressive 6.9 K/9 and a mediocre 4.41 ERA through 51.0 innings.
JULY 21, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Rejoining rotation Saturday Cannon is scheduled to start Saturday's game against the Royals in Kansas City, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports.
Impact In his final appearance before the All-Star break last Friday versus the Pirates, Cannon worked out of the bullpen as a piggyback pitcher behind starter Garrett Crochet, tossing six innings while allowing four earned runs. Cannon will now take back a rotation spot in the White Sox's opening series of the second half, as he'll be picking up his ninth start of the season Friday. The White Sox have already confirmed Cannon for another start for next Thursday in Texas, but it's unclear if he'll stick around in the rotation thereafter.
JULY 17, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Stuck with loss in piggyback role Cannon (1-3) took the loss Friday as the White Sox were downed 4-1 by the Pirates, giving up four runs on seven hits and two walks over six relief innings. He struck out four.
Impact Starter Garrett Crochet was on a strict pitch count and got the hook after two perfect innings, but Cannon was able to save the rest of the bullpen by tossing 92 pitches (57 strikes). Manager Pedro Grifol has indicated that Crochet's workload is going to be monitored the rest of the way, or at least for as long as the southpaw is with the White Sox, and with Mike Clevinger (elbow) close to coming off the IL, Cannon could remain the first option to work in tandem with Crochet in a piggyback role. Through 51 innings in the majors this season, the rookie right-hander has a 4.41 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 39:13 K:BB.
JULY 13, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Turns in quality start Cannon allowed a run on three hits and four walks over six innings in a no-decision Sunday. He struck out three in the loss against Miami.
Impact Cannon kept the Marlins off the board until the fourth inning when he coughed up an RBI double to Vidal Brujan. Cannon hadn't walked more than two batters in any MLB appearance this season prior to Sunday's outing. He issued only three free passes over his previous 25.1 frames. Despite the shaky command, he bounced back after giving up 11 runs (eight earned) over his previous two starts. Cannon lowered his ERA to 4.20 with a 35:11 K:BB through 45 innings. He's currently lined up for a home start against the Pirates next weekend.

Solid in debut Cannon did not factor into the decision Wednesday against the Royals, allowing one run on three hits and a walk while striking out three over five innings.
Impact Cannon turned in a strong effort in his first Major League appearance, holding Kansas City to a lone run in the second inning. The 23-year-old right-hander won't offer high strikeout totals (he averaged 7.88 K/9 last year in the minors) but he's demonstrated advanced command and an ability to generate ground balls thanks to a sinker that he threw 39 percent of the time in his debut. Cannon will likely return to the minors, though he'll remain first in line should the White Sox need reinforcements in their rotation.
