Out with back strain
Tinoco was placed on the 15-day injured list Sunday, retroactive to March 28, due to a lower-back strain, Craig Mish of the Miami Herald reports.
Impact
The right-hander picked up the win with a scoreless frame Opening Day, but he'll now be unavailable for the next couple weeks due to the back issue. It's unclear how long Tinoco is expected to be sidelined, but he'll be eligible to be reinstated in mid-April. Calvin Faucher and Anthony Bender are now the favorites to see ninth-inning work for the Marlins.

Picks up Opening Day win
Tinoco (1-0) was credited with the win for Thursday's game against Pittsburgh. He allowed one one walk and one hit while striking out a batter across one scoreless frame.
Impact
The 29-year-old right-hander was called from the bullpen for the top of the ninth inning, and after giving up a double and walk to Tommy Pham and Bryan Reynolds, respectively, Tinoco managed to escape the frame by striking out Joey Bart. It's worth noting that Tinoco got the call in a high-leverage situation over Calvin Faucher, with the duo battling for the top closer job in spring training. Tinoco tossed 26 pitches in his one inning of work, which could put him out of action through Saturday.

Serves up two homers Thursday
Tinoco gave up four runs on four hits, including two home runs, in one innings during Thursday's Grapefruit League game against the Astros. He struck out one.
Impact
The 29-year-old right-hander is projected to split closing duties with Calvin Faucher to begin the season, but Tinoco did himself no favors with Thursday's outing as the long balls didn't exactly come against Houston's most dangerous bats -- Jake Meyers and Zack Short did the honors in the seventh inning. Tinoco has a rough 9.72 ERA and 7:5 K:BB through 8.1 Grapefruit League innings, but Faucher hasn't been much better this spring with an 8.10 ERA and 6:4 K:BB through 6.2 frames. The Marlins' closing picture could remain muddled well into the summer.

Rounding into form
Tinoco gave up a hit and struck out one in 1.1 scoreless innings during Sunday's Grapefruit League game against the Cardinals.
Impact
The 29-year-old right-hander fired 16 of 25 pitches for strikes as he gets ready to handle a high-leverage role in the Marlins' bullpen. Calvin Faucher appears to be first in line for save chances, but Tinoco could see ninth-inning work as well after posting a 3.32 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and 42:12 K:BB through 40.2 big-league innings last season and converting three of four save chances in September as Miami's closer.

In saves mix heading into camp
Tinoco will compete with Calvin Faucher for the Marlins' closer job this spring, Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reports.
Impact
Faucher took over the job last August and proceeded to convert six straight save chances before blowing one against the Nationals on Sept. 4 and subsequently landing on the IL with a shoulder impingement that ended his season. In his absence, Tinoco got a look in the ninth inning and performed fairly well, going 3-for-4 in his September save chances with a 2.61 ERA, 0.68 WHIP and 8:1 K:BB over 10.1 innings. Faucher will likely get the first chance to secure the role, but if he stumbles early, Tinoco figures to be the next man up once again. Southpaw Andrew Nardi (elbow) could also be in the saves mix if he shows that he's healthy and can regain his 2023 form.

Hit with first blown save
Tinoco was charged with a blown save in Thursday's extra-innings win over the Twins, allowing one run on three hits and one walk over 1.2 innings while striking out one.
Impact
Tinoco took over for Anthony Bender with one out and a man on first in the bottom of the eighth and coughed up back-to-back hits to allow two runners to come home, tying the game at 4-4. He was then able to get through the frame without sustaining any further damage before pitching a scoreless ninth. It marked the right-hander's first blown save this season after converting his previous three opportunities this month. It also marked the second time in his last five appearances that he allowed three hits and at least one run. On a positive note, Tinoco has now recorded at least one strikeout in three straight outings.

Converts third save
Tinoco struck out one without allowing a baserunner over 1.2 innings to earn the save in Tuesday's 4-1 win over the Twins.
Impact
Anthony Bender left two on with one out in the eighth inning, but Tinoco avoided trouble in that frame. Tinoco also tossed a perfect ninth and has now gone 3.2 innings without allowing a baserunner. He's earned three saves over his last five appearances, taking over the closing role since Calvin Faucher (shoulder) landed on the injured list. Tinoco has a 1.55 ERA, 0.59 WHIP and 29:4 K:BB over 25 innings with the Marlins, an improvement on his 3.23 ERA, 0.90 WHIP and 41:11 K:BB through 39 innings for the year, which includes time with the Rangers and the Cubs.

Earns save Friday
Tinoco threw a perfect inning and picked up a save against Atlanta on Friday.
Impact
Tinoco needed just eight pitches (six strikes) to retire Atlanta's 9-1-2 hitters and close out the 4-3 win. It was his second save of the season and both have come during his last three appearances. Tinoco dropped his season ERA to 3.47 with a 39:11 K:BB through 36.1 innings.

Grabs second career save
Tinoco got the save in Thursday's 6-3 win over the Nationals. He pitched two innings without allowing a run or a hit and striking out two.
Impact
Tinoco entered the game in the eighth inning with a two-run lead and proceeded to retire all six hitters he faced to record his first save since 2019, when he was a member of the Rockies. Tinoco is pitching for his third team this season but seems to have found a home in Miami. Tinoco has a 1.33 ERA and 0.54 WHIP in 20.1 innings since joining the Marlins. The 29-year-old has a chance at being the closer for the Marlins down the stretch after Calvin Faucher (shoulder) landed on the injured list.

Tinoco has turned in a 1.47 ERA, 0.60 WHIP and 24:4 K:BB while collecting one win and five holds over 18.1 innings across 15 appearances out of the bullpen since the Marlins claime...
Impact
Tabbed to fill one of the openings in the bullpen that was created by the Marlins' fire sale ahead of the trade deadline, Tinoco has arguably performed better with Miami than any of the relievers (Tanner Scott, Bryan Hoeing, A.J. Puk, Huascar Brazoban and JT Chargois) that were dealt away. A 29-year-old journeyman who owns a modest 3.82 ERA over 74 career MLB appearances, Tinoco attributes part of his newfound success in Miami to his increased usage of a slider that he revamped while pitching overseas in Japan in 2023, per Kevin Barral of FishOnFirst.com. Tinoco has quickly moved into a high-leverage role out of the Marlins bullpen, and he could now get a chance to pick up saves down the stretch after incumbent closer Calvin Faucher (shoulder) landed on the injured list Saturday. John McMillon and Anthony Bender loom as potential challengers for closing duties.

Claimed by Marlins
The Marlins claimed Tinoco off waivers from the Cubs on Tuesday.
Impact
After being DFA'd by the Cubs on Saturday, Tinoco will join a Marlins bullpen in need of extra depth following Tuesday's trade deadline. The 29-year-old righty has allowed nine earned runs in 14 innings in the majors this season, though he did not allow a run in four frames during his time with the Cubs. Braxton Garrett (forearm) was moved to the 60-day IL to clear space on the 40-man roster.

Impact

Loses roster spot
Tinoco was outrighted to Triple-A Round Rock on Thursday.
Impact
The Rangers made a flurry of moves Thursday, primarily activating players from the 60-day injured list. In turn, they had to open spots on the 40-man roster, and Tinoco was one of the casualties. He spent most of the season at Round Rock in 2022, though he managed a 2.18 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 18:10 K:BB across 20.2 innings while pitching out of the bullpen with the Rangers.
