Set for rehab start
Taillon (calf) will make his scheduled rehab start with Triple-A Iowa on Friday, Taylor McGregor of Marquee Sports Network reports.
Impact
The right-hander was pummeled for seven earned runs across three innings in his last rehab start, but he will stay on schedule nonetheless. Depending on how he fares Friday, Taillon could jump back into the Cubs' rotation next week as the team kicks off a stretch of 14 games in 13 days.

Scratched from rehab start
Taillon (calf) will not make his scheduled rehab start for Triple-A Iowa on Friday, Taylor McGregor of Marquee Sports Network reports.
Impact
It's uncertain whether this is due to a setback, but that seems likely given the timing of the scratch. With recent trade acquisition Mike Soroka (shoulder) landing on the injured list, the Cubs could be forced to turn to Brad Keller, Ben Brown and/or Jordan Wicks for starts in the coming weeks.

Struggles in rehab start
Taillon (calf) allowed seven runs on seven hits across three innings of work in a rehab appearance for Triple-A Iowa on Sunday. He struck out one.
Impact
Seeing his first game action of any kind since June 29, Taillon struggled, as he allowed two home runs and also hit two batters. The veteran righty tossed 64 pitches before departing, and while it was a rough outing, the key thing is he left the game feeling healthy without any reported setbacks. The Cubs may want to build Taillon up a bit more in another rehab start, but he appears to be closing in on a return to the majors. Chicago only added Michael Soroka to the back end of its rotation before the trade deadline, so Taillon will likely slot in as the team's No. 3 starter behind Shota Imanaga and Matthew Boyd moving forward.

Struggles in rehab start
Taillon (calf) struck out one batter and allowed seven earned runs on seven hits across three innings in a rehab start with Triple-A Iowa on Sunday. He also hit two batters.
Impact
Making his first appearance at any level since June 29, Taillon didn't issue any walks but lacked command in the 64-pitch outing. Though the right-hander's results left much to be desired, he left the contest feeling healthy and without any reported setbacks with his calf. The Cubs may want to build Taillon up a bit more in another rehab start, but he appears to be closing in on a return from the 15-day injured list. Chicago added Michael Soroka to the back end of its rotation before the trade deadline, but Taillon is likely to slot in as the team's No. 3 starter behind Shota Imanaga and Matthew Boyd once he gets activated.

Rehab assignment on tap
Taillon (calf) is scheduled to begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Iowa on Saturday, per MLB.com.
Impact
Taillon faced hitters in a 40-pitch live batting practice session Tuesday, and his next step is a rehab assignment in Iowa. The veteran has already been able to build his stamina some by throwing off a mound during his recovery from a calf strain, so his rehab stint may be fairly brief. Taillon has been out since June 29, and Chicago manager Craig Counsell said a few days later that the pitcher would miss about a month, so the righty appears on track to return to the Cubs' rotation in the near future.
