INJURIES

Season-high 11 strikeouts in win Greene (1-4) earned the win Friday, tossing six hitless innings during a 9-0 victory over the Cubs. He struck out 11 and walked two.
Impact Coming into the contest, Greene allowed seven home runs and 17 runs over his previous four starts, but he was still striking batters out at a high clip (29 through 22 innings). He maintained that elite strikeout rate versus the Cubs while reducing the hard contact, resulting in the best outing of his season and arguably of his short two-year career. The hard-throwing right-hander has all the makings of an ace, but he hasn't proven it consistently yet. The best stretch of his career thus far came at the end of 2022 when he posted a 0.62 ERA, 0.69 WHIP and 45:7 K:BB over his final five starts (29 innings), which included a two-hit, eight strikeout performance against the Cubs.

Punches out 10 in loss Greene (0-4) took the loss Sunday, allowing four runs on four hits and three walks over seven innings in a 4-1 loss to the Yankees. He struck out 10.
Impact Greene is still winless this season despite punching out 10 batters for the third time in nine outings. He was hurt by the home-run ball Sunday, as the Yankees took the lead on Harrison Bader's two-run shot in the fifth inning before Gleyber Torres added a solo homer in the sixth. Through 50 innings this season, Greene has a mediocre 4.68 ERA and 1.50 WHIP despite a solid 69:20 K:BB.

Tagged with six runs Greene allowed six runs on nine hits and a walk over four innings in Monday's loss to the Rockies. He struck out eight and did not factor in the decision.
Impact Greene stumbled early Monday, coughing up four runs in the second innings. He then allowed a two-run homer to Brenton Doyle in the fourth. Fortunately for Greene, the Reds' offense kept pace for most of the game, so he wasn't charged with the loss. His season ERA rose to 4.60 with a 59:17 K:BB through 43 innings. Greene is projected to face the Yankees at home this weekend.

Gives up two in loss Greene (0-3) took the loss Wednesday against the Mets, allowing two runs on six hits and four walks while striking out four over 5.1 innings.
Impact Greene opened up the game by striking out the side but would only register one more punch out the rest of the way. He was taken yard by Pete Alonso to kick off the second inning and then gave up another run in the fourth after Luis Guillorme doubled and Brandon Nimmo singled him home. The 23-year-old did allow a season-high four walks and his four strikeouts were his second fewest on the year, but he's given up three runs or fewer in all but one start. Green will carry a 3.69 ERA, 1.49 WHIP and 51:16 K:BB over 39 innings into a road matchup at Coors Field against the Rockies next week.

Remains winless Greene (0-2) took the loss Friday as the Reds fell 5-4 to the White Sox, giving up five runs on seven hits and a walk over 5.2 innings. He struck out seven.
Impact Homers by Elvis Andrus and Luis Robert accounted for most of the damage off Greene, with the latter long ball helping to chase the right-hander from the game. The 23-year-old continues to look dominant at times -- he produced 19 swinging strikes among his 102 pitches -- but the strikeouts aren't yet leading to consistent results. Greene will take a 3.74 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and 47:12 K:BB through 33.2 innings into his next start, which could come at home next week against the Mets.

Fans 10 in no-decision Greene did not factor in the decision against Oakland on Saturday. He pitched five innings, allowing two unearned runs on five hits and three walks while striking out 10 batters.
Impact Greene was dinged for two runs in the second inning, though both were unearned since the frame began with a Nick Senzel error. Aside from that, the 22-year-old was impressive, recording his second double-digit strikeout effort this season and racking up a whopping 24 swings-and-misses. Greene was prevented from going deeper into the contest because he needed 112 pitches to get through five frames, costing him a chance at his third quality start in his past four outings. Nonetheless, he's looking every bit like one of the best young hurlers in the game this season, registering a 2.89 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and 40:11 K:BB across 28 innings.

Solid in loss Greene (0-1) took the loss Sunday, allowing a run on four hits and two walks over six innings against the Pirates. He struck out six.
Impact Greene allowed a run in the bottom of the first before bouncing back with five shutout innings. It was a strong performance from the 23-year-old right-hander, who left his last start after three innings with a right tibia contusion. However, Cincinnati's offense couldn't muster anything offensively, tagging Greene with a hard-luck loss. He lowers his ERA to 3.52 with a 1.39 WHIP and an impressive 30:8 K:BB through his first 23 innings this season.

Confirmed to start Sunday Greene (tibia) is listed as the Reds' starting pitcher for Sunday's series finale in Pittsburgh, Kevin Gorman of TribLive.com reports.
Impact Greene was diagnosed with a right tibia contusion after his most recent start in Monday's 8-1 win over the Rays ended early when he was struck by a comebacker, but he looks like he'll be ready to go when he he returns to the hill Sunday on five days' rest. Since suffering the tibia contusion, Greene inked a six-year, $53 contract extension that includes a $21 million team option for 2029, potentially locking him into the Cincinnati rotation for the rest of the decade.

Agrees to six-year, $53M extension Greene and the Reds agreed Tuesday to a six-year, $53 million contract extension with a seventh-year club option, Jeff Passan of ESPN reports.
Impact The new deal kicks in this season and will buy out what would have been Greene's first two years of free agency. The option for 2029 is worth $21 million and carries a $2 million buyout. Greene, 23, is one of the hardest-throwing starting pitchers in baseball history and boasts 188 strikeouts through his first 142.2 major-league innings. Granted, he's also issued 54 walks in that span and holds a career 4.42 ERA. With a little improvement in his overall command and secondary offerings, the right-hander could emerge as a full-on superstar in Cincinnati.

Will get extra day of rest Reds manager David Bell said Tuesday that Greene (leg) will have his next start pushed back a day, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
Impact In fact, all member of the Reds' starting rotation will get an additional day of rest on the next turn through. Levi Stoudt is set to make his MLB debut in a spot start Wednesday versus the Rays and Luke Weaver (forearm) will be activated from the IL to pitch Thursday against the Pirates, allowing for the schedule maneuvering. Greene took a comebacker off his right tibia Monday but X-rays turned up negative for any structural damage.

Hopeful for next start Greene (tibia contusion) said he hopes to make his next start, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
Impact His right leg tightened up in between innings after he was hit by a comebacker, but X-rays were negative. Greene tossed three scoreless innings with one strikeout against the Rays before his night was cut short. If Greene can stay on turn, he would line up to pitch this weekend in Pittsburgh.
