Impact The 35-year-old inherited loaded bases from Tyler Zuber, and they were quickly unloaded with a grand slam from Miguel Cabrera. That left Holland with his second blown save of the year. He's added two saves and four holds with a 4.50 ERA and 1.88 WHIP across 16 innings. It's looking more like his 1.91 ERA and 0.95 WHIP from 2020 were fluky results -- his 6.26 FIP in 2021 suggests he's even gotten a little lucky so far.

Impact The 35-year-old has settled down a bit in May after a tumultuous April. In his last seven outings, Holland has a 2.70 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and two holds. Manager Mike Matheny continues to operate with a committee at closer -- Holland (two saves, four holds) has often played second fiddle to Josh Staumont (five saves, two holds) this year. Scott Barlow and Wade Davis also remain in the mix.

The 35-year-old Holland owns a 4.30 ERA, 1.91 WHIP and 18:12 K:BB across 14.2 innings. He's picked up two saves, three holds, a blown save and a 2-1 record in 15 outings as Kansas City has deployed a closer-by-committee approach in 2021.

Impact Holland last recorded a save April 18. He had pitched four straight innings without being charged with a run entering Sunday, but he faltered in the seventh inning against the White Sox. Holland sports a 5.25 ERA, 1.92 WHIP and 13:8 K:BB in 12 innings this season. The Royals have lost eight straight games, so save chances haven't come up lately. Manager Mike Matheny might hesitate to call on Holland the next time there's a lead to protect in the ninth given the reliever's inconsistent pitching so far. However, Josh Staumont has has given up four earned runs over his past two outings, so Holland may not be entirely out of the running for save chances.
