Dealt loss Monday
Holland (2-5) allowed three runs (one earned) on two hits and two walks in two-thirds of an inning, taking the extra-innings loss to the Yankees on Monday.
Impact
In a game that saw the Royals rally from a deficit in four consecutive innings, Holland's sloppy pitching in the 11th combined with Whit Merrifield's costly error created a deficit too big to overcome. This was Holland's first loss since July 8, but he's now allowed six runs (four earned) in his last inning across two appearances. The 35-year-old has a 5.24 ERA, 1.46 WHIP and 45:24 K:BB with seven saves, eight holds and four blown saves in 44.2 innings. Given his recent struggles, manager Mike Matheny may be more inclined to turn to other members of the closing committee for save chances in the near future.

Can't nail down save Saturday
Holland recorded his sixth hold of the season in Saturday's 9-8 win over the Tigers, allowing two runs on two hits and two walks over two-thirds of an inning.
Impact
Entering the game in the ninth inning to protect a three-run lead, Holland instead made a mess of things, serving up a two-run shot to Akil Baddoo and then walking two more batters before getting replaced by Wade Davis for the final out. Holland avoided another blown save, but the 35-year-old has an 8.64 ERA and 1.56 WHIP through 8.1 innings in July and seems to be losing ground to Scott Barlow in the Royals' closer mix.

Converts seventh save
Holland struck out two in a perfect inning to earn the save in Friday's 5-3 win over Detroit.
Impact
Holland has recorded saves in each of his last two appearances after going nine straight outings without one. The 35-year-old needed just 13 pitches to finish off Detroit in the ninth inning. The right-hander has a 4.62 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 42:18 K:BB through 39 innings. He's collected seven saves, five holds and four blown saves as part of Kansas City's crowded closer committee, although it appears Holland and Scott Barlow are the strongest high-leverage options at the moment.

Locks down sixth save
Holland earned the save Tuesday against the Brewers by tossing a scoreless inning. He gave up one hit and no walks while striking out two batters.
Impact
With the Royals holding onto a three-run lead, Holland was called upon to finish things up. He nearly surrendered a home run to Manny Pina, but luckily Andrew Benintendi came through with a solid catch. With his pair of punchouts, Holland picked up his 500th strikeout as a Royal and his 40th of the season across 38 innings. The right-hander has tallied six saves to go with a 4.74 ERA and 1.42 WHIP.

Handed loss Thursday
Holland (2-4) gave up three runs on two hits and a walk and struck out one in two-thirds of an inning, taking the loss Thursday versus Cleveland.
Impact
Holland entered in the ninth inning of a game tied at 4-4, but he wasn't able to keep it that way. Franmil Reyes took the right-hander deep for a three-run walkoff home run. With five runs allowed in his last 2.2 innings, Holland is off to a rough start in July, which could cause manager Mike Matheny to turn to other options in the closer role. The 35-year-old reliever has a 4.89 ERA, 1.49 WHIP and 37:18 K:BB through 35 innings. He's added five saves, five holds and four blown saves.

Blows save, takes loss
Holland (2-3) was tagged with a loss and a blown save against the Yankees on Wednesday, allowing two runs on three hits while retiring only one batter (via strikeout).
Impact
Holland was brought into the game in the ninth inning to protect a one-run lead but couldn't come through. He started off strong by striking out Aaron Judge before giving up a game-tying homer to Gary Sanchez. Holland walked off the mound with a loss two batters later following a single, a wild pitch and another single. He may currently be the Royals' top option for saves, but with four blown saves in nine chances this season, he isn't an especially reliable closer.

Collects fifth save
Holland picked up the save against the Yankees on Tuesday after tossing a scoreless inning. He allowed one hit and a walk while striking out two.
Impact
Holland worked around a bloop single to Gio Urshela and an intentional walk to Gary Sanchez to close out a one-run lead against a volatile Yankees lineup. The Royals have favored more of a closer-by-committee approach, limiting Holland to five saves on the season. It doesn't help that he's issued 16 free passes across 28 innings. That all said, he's probably the best bet for saves among the Kansas City bullpen right now.

Logs fourth save
Holland pitched a perfect inning with one strikeout to earn the save in Friday's 5-3 win over Boston.
Impact
Holland blew a save opportunity and took the loss Wednesday versus Detroit, but manager Mike Matheny went right back to the veteran Friday. The confidence paid off as Holland converted his fourth save of the year. The veteran reliever has a 4.15 ERA, 1.46 WHIP and 28:15 K:BB across 26 innings this year. Kansas City's bullpen remains a crowded committee, although Holland and Josh Staumont appear to be the current favorites for save chances.

Dealt loss Wednesday
Holland (2-2) allowed three runs on two hits and a walk in just one-third of an inning, taking the loss versus Detroit on Wednesday.
Impact
The right-hander allowed a game-tying two-run home run to Willi Castro in the seventh inning. Holland then allowed a single to Robbie Grossman, who scored on a Scott Barlow wild pitch. That run was enough to stick Holland with the loss. He had been effective in allowing just two runs in his previous 10 outings entering Wednesday. The veteran reliever has a 4.32 ERA, 1.52 WHIP and 27:15 K:BB across 25 innings while adding three saves, three blown saves and four holds this year.

Tosses clean inning
Holland pitched a perfect inning with one strikeout in Tuesday's 4-3 loss to Detroit.
Impact
In his last 10 outings, Holland has allowed just two runs with a 9:2 K:BB across nine innings. He had a somewhat slow start to the year, but the right-hander now owns a 3.28 ERA and 1.42 WHIP across 24.2 innings. He's picked up three saves, four holds and a 2-1 record, so Holland should continue to see work in high-leverage situations.

Records third save
Holland pitched a perfect ninth inning with one strikeout to earn a save in Sunday's 6-3 win over Minnesota.
Impact
This was Holland's first save since April 18 and his third overall this year. Josh Staumont (knee) had handled most of the closing duties before landing on the injured list. The 35-year-old Holland has a 3.86 ERA, 1.77 WHIP and 21:14 K:BB across 18.2 innings this season. Kyle Zimmer and Scott Barlow combined for three scoreless innings Sunday, with both relievers earning holds. They could be in the mix for save chances should Holland struggle in the near term.
