Earns Opening Day win Marquez (1-0) earned the win Thursday, allowing two runs on five hits and no walks over six innings in a 7-2 victory over San Diego. He struck out five.
Impact Marquez quieted an intimidating Padres lineup, allowing just five hits. Though three of those knocks went for extra bases, Marquez was able to get through six frames having yielded just a pair of runs. The right-hander threw 57 of 87 pitches for strikes and carried over the momentum from a strong spring during which he allowed just one run over 17 frames. Marquez's Opening Day performance may have fantasy managers feeling intrigued, but it's worth remembering that he posted an ugly 6.70 ERA on his home field last season.

Earns Opening Day nod Marquez has been announced as the Rockies' Opening Day starter, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.
Impact Marquez will take the ball on March 30 at Petco Park against the Padres. The right-hander is looking for a bounce-back showing in 2023 after he posted a disappointing 4.90 ERA and 1.37 WHIP across 181.2 innings in 2022.
MARCH 24, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Sharp in second spring appearance Marquez allowed two hits and struck out seven with no walks across four scoreless innings in Tuesday's Cactus League game against the Cubs.
Impact The outing was Marquez's second start of the spring, and he managed to double his workload. He now has thrown six scoreless innings while racking up an impressive 9:1 K:BB during the exhibition season. Marquez struggled to an ugly 4.90 ERA and 1.37 WHIP across 181.2 innings in 2022, but he's still a lock for the Colorado rotation and should account for plenty of innings if he can remain healthy.

Making spring debut Saturday Marquez (hamstring) is set to make his Cactus League debut Saturday against the Mariners, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.
Impact He'll do so in a piggyback role after Saturday's starter Kyle Freeland, which is fairly custom in spring training games. Marquez tweaked his left hamstring in mid-February and had to bow out of the World Baseball Classic, but all signs point to him being fully cleared for the beginning of the 2023 regular season.

Completes BP session Marquez (hamstring) threw a two-inning live batting practice Tuesday, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.
Impact Marquez has been dealing with soreness in his left hamstring, but he was able to get in the work on Tuesday, and Harding reports that the right-hander will be able to see action in a Cactus league game "within days." At this point, it does not appear that Marquez is in danger of missing any time in the regular season, but fantasy managers will want to keep track of his progress over the next few weeks.

Slated for live batting practice Marquez (hamstring) will throw live batting practice Saturday, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.
Impact Marquez came into camp with a sore left hamstring, but he's been going through workouts the last several days with no issues and is now ready to test things out against hitters. The veteran right-hander will probably need another week or so before he's ready for game action.

Feels good after jogging Monday Marquez (hamstring) did some jogging Monday and felt good, Patrick Lyons of TheDNVR.com reports.
Impact Marquez suffered a left hamstring strain just before arriving to Rockies camp in Arizona, but he made it through a bullpen session without issue over the weekend and appears to be catching back up rather quickly. All current indications suggest that he will be ready for the beginning of the 2023 regular season. Look for him to begin pitching in Cactus League games around early-to-mid March.

Completes side session Marquez (hamstring) completed a bullpen session Sunday, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.
Impact Though Marquez opted out of pitching for the Venezuelan team in the World Baseball Classic after experiencing a sore left hamstring shortly after reporting to Rockies camp, his ability to resume throwing off a mound suggests the injury won't do much to derail his preparation for the 2023 season. The Rockies could continue to take things slowly with Marquez in the spring as a precaution, but once he's cleared to pitch in the Cactus League or in an intrasquad game, he can probably be considered good to go for Opening Day. Despite coming off a down 2022 campaign in which he turned in a 4.95 ERA and 1.37 WHIP over 181.2 innings, Marquez likely still profiles as the Rockies' top starting pitcher from a fantasy perspective.

Does light running Marquez (hamstring) did some light running Saturday, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.
Impact Marquez is dealing with a minor hamstring issue which prevented him from joining Venezuela's roster for the first round of the World Baseball Classic. He has plenty of time to be ready by Opening Day, however, and he hasn't even been ruled out for subsequent stages of the international tournament.
FEBRUARY 18, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Out for WBC with hamstring injury Marquez will no longer pitch for his native Venezuela in the World Baseball Classic after tweaking his left hamstring, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.
Impact The good news is that while Marquez will hold off throwing bullpen sessions for a bit, the injury is not expected to affect his availability for Opening Day. Marquez is coming off a disappointing 2022 season for the Rockies, having posted a 4.95 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 150:63 K:BB over 181.2 innings.

Fans eight in win Marquez (9-13) earned the win during Sunday's 4-1 victory over the Dodgers, allowing one run on one hit and three walks with eight strikeouts in six innings.
Impact Marquez was provided an early lead and surrendered his lone run in the third inning on a Cody Bellinger sacrifice fly following a walk and single. The 27-year-old induced an impressive 14 swinging strikes on 86 pitches en route to a season-high eight strikeouts while his 71 game score represented his third-best mark. Marquez concludes the campaign with an even 5.00 ERA and 1.37 WHIP with 150 strikeouts in 181.2 innings across 31 starts.

Takes loss despite quality start Marquez (8-13) took the loss during Tuesday's 5-2 defeat at the hands of the Giants, allowing three runs on six hits and one walk with six strikeouts in six innings.
Impact Marquez was handed a one-run lead before he took the mound but gave it right back by surrendering two runs on four baserunners in the bottom of the first. He proceeded to keep San Francisco's offense quiet aside from a J.D. Davis solo home run in the fourth, though the three earned runs proved enough to hand the 27-year-old his third straight loss. Other than a nine-run outing Sept. 9, Marquez has pitched well of late with a 2.81 ERA across 32 innings in his five other most recent starts. He possesses a 5.12 ERA and 1.39 WHIP with 142 strikeouts in 175.2 innings.

Struggles in loss Marquez (8-12) took the loss on Wednesday against the Giants, allowing four runs (three earned) on nine hits over five innings. He struck out six and also walked a batter.
Impact Marquez got himself into trouble early and often, giving up a leadoff double to LaMonte Wade in the first, who came around to score the game's first run. The right-hander would then allow the leadoff man to reach base in three of the next four innings. September hasn't been kind to Marquez as he now holds a 6.26 ERA through four starts this month.
SEPTEMBER 22, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Takes tough-luck loss Marquez (8-11) allowed two earned runs on six hits and two walks while striking out four across seven innings to take the loss Friday against the Cubs.
Impact Marquez was undone by Zach McKinstry, who led off the game with a triple before scoring and also slugged a solo home run in the fifth frame. However, Marquez was excellent otherwise, holding the Cubs without an extra-base hit while also inducing 15 swinging strikes on 95 total pitches. Across 82.1 innings on the road this season, Marquez has maintained a 3.50 ERA -- though that has come with just a 56:35 K:BB.
