Sent to minor-league camp Tovar was optioned to minor-league spring training Saturday.

Impact Tovar was added to the Rockies' Rule 5 draft in November, and he worked with the major-league coaching staff to begin spring training. He went 9-for-16 with three homers, a double, six RBI, five runs, a stolen base and a strikeout across seven Cactus League appearances this spring, but he'll presumably begin the 2022 campaign at High-A Spokane.

Joins 40-man roster Tovar was added to the Rockies' 40-man roster Friday.

Impact The move means Tovar won't be available for selection in the upcoming Rule 5 draft. He's still far from his major-league debut, as he struggled significantly upon his promotion to High-A Spokane, hitting .239/.266/.396 in 32 games.
