INJURIES

Lands on 15-day IL The Marlins placed Perez on the 15-day injured list Friday, retroactive to Thursday, due to a right gracilis strain.
Impact Perez was forced out of Wednesday's start against the Blue Jays due to what was initially diagnosed as a right hamstring spasm, but additional tests have revealed a serious enough injury to warrant a stint on the IL for the 23-year-old right-hander. Perez is eligible to be reinstated from the IL in mid-June, though his exact timeline will depend on the severity of the strain. In a corresponding move, the Marlins recalled right-hander Josh Ekness from Triple-A Jacksonville.

Headed for imaging on hamstring Perez said after Wednesday's 2-1 loss to the Blue Jays that he will undergo further imaging on his right hamstring, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
Impact After limiting the Blue Jays to three base hits while striking out nine and issuing no walks over four scoreless frames, Perez was pulled in advance of the fifth inning of his start Wednesday due to a right hamstring spasm. The Marlins will send Perez in for an MRI to glean more information on the severity of the injury, which the right-hander indicated is already beginning to show some improvement. Until the results of his imaging are available, Perez's status for his next turn through the rotation Tuesday in Washington is up in the air.

Exits start due to hamstring issue Perez was removed after four innings in his start Wednesday against the Blue Jays due to a right hamstring spasm, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
Impact Before abruptly leaving the game, Perez was cruising along to his best start of the season. He held the Blue Jays off the board through the first four innings, allowing just three hits -- all singles -- and no walks while recording a season-high nine punchouts. According to Hazel Mae of Sportsnet, Perez appeared to suffer the injury while doing some stretching prior to the fifth inning and needed assistance to get down the steps in the Miami dugout before heading to the clubhouse. The Marlins should have more information on the severity of Perez's injury in the days to come, but the fact that his hamstring issue is being listed as a spasm rather than a strain offers hope that he'll avoid missing his next start, which is tentatively set for next Tuesday in Washington.

Snaps losing streak with win Friday Perez (3-6) earned the win Friday against the Mets, allowing one run on two hits and no walks with five strikeouts across 6.1 innings.
Impact Perez's lone blemish was a first-inning solo homer allowed to Juan Soto. The right-hander faced the minimum the rest of the way before being pulled with one out in the seventh. It was the first time Perez recorded more than 18 outs in a start since Opening Day, and it was just his third quality start of the season. Perez has undeniably electric stuff, but he's been hurt by walks and homers this season, and he came into this one having lost five straight starts. Friday was his first start of 2026 without issuing a free pass. With the strong outing, Perez lowered his ERA to 4.91 with a 63:28 K:BB across 58.2 innings this season. The 23-year-old will look to build on the performance with a road date in Toronto next week.
MAY 23 • ROTOWIRE
Loses fifth straight Sunday Perez (2-6) took the loss against the Rays on Sunday, allowing five runs on five hits and four walks with five strikeouts over five innings.
Impact The same command issues that have plagued Perez for much of the season were his undoing Sunday, as he allowed two homers and walked four batters while throwing 63 of 102 pitches for strikes. During his current five-start losing streak, the 23-year-old has posted a 6.55 ERA while surrendering six long balls and issuing 16 free passes. He'll take a disappointing 5.33 ERA, 1.41 WHIP and 58:28 K:BB across 52.1 innings this season into a home start against the Mets next weekend.
MAY 17 • ROTOWIRE
Nabs quality start but takes loss Perez (2-5) took the loss against Minnesota on Tuesday, allowing three hits and issuing three walks while striking out eight batters over six innings.
Impact Perez did well outside of the fifth inning, when he gave up three runs on a walk and two hits (including a Ryan Jeffers homer). However, that was more than enough for Minnesota to pull out the win in a game during which Twins starter Bailey Ober recorded his first career shutout. On a positive note for Perez, he posted his third quality start of the campaign and tied a season high with eight punchouts while showing improvement over the five-run, five-inning dud he labored through his last time out. Perez is in line to make his next start at Tampa Bay this weekend.
MAY 13 • ROTOWIRE
Control issues surface again Perez (2-4) was tagged with the loss Wednesday against the Orioles after allowing five runs on four hits and five walks across five innings. He struck out six.
Impact Perez has been charged with the loss in each of his last three outings, failing to complete at least six frames each time and allowing at least four earned runs twice. The control issues plagued him in this loss to Baltimore, as he was coming off five straight appearances in which he had given up two or fewer walks. On a more positive note, however, this was his fourth consecutive outing with six or more strikeouts. Perez will carry a 5.01 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and 45:21 K:BB across 41.1 innings this season into his next start, which is tentatively scheduled against the Twins on the road next week.
MAY 7 • ROTOWIRE
Strikes out six against Philly Perez (2-3) took the loss Friday against the Phillies, allowing two runs on four hits and two walks with six strikeouts across five innings.
Impact Perez breezed through the first three innings, piling up five strikeouts, but he ran into trouble in the fourth with two runs allowed on three hits, one walk and a wild pitch. Perez has some of the best pure stuff, but he's been hurt by inconsistent command. The right-hander has allowed at last three runs in six of seven starts to begin the season and now owns a 4.46 ERA and 39:16 K:BB across 36.1 innings. The swing-and-miss stuff is there, but Perez needs to be sharper and work deeper into games. He's made it six innings just twice. The 23-year-old is lined up to face Baltimore at home next week.
MAY 2 • ROTOWIRE
Hurt by hard contact in second loss Perez (2-2) took the loss Saturday against the Giants, allowing four runs on seven hits and two walks in 5.1 innings. He struck out six.
Impact Perez was cruising along through four shutout frames, but San Francisco proceeded to plate four runs across the fifth and sixth innings. All but one of the seven hits allowed by the hard-throwing right-hander went for extra bases, with two leaving the yard. Perez carries a shaky 4.60 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 33:14 K:BB across his first 31.1 innings, and he's given up multiple runs in all but one of his six starts. A tough matchup against the Phillies is lined up for his next outing.
APRIL 26 • ROTOWIRE
Strikes out seven over six innings Perez (2-1) earned the win Sunday against the Brewers, allowing one unearned run on three hits and one walk while striking out seven over six innings.
Impact Perez turned in a strong performance, cruising through five scoreless innings, including striking out the side in the second, before running into minor trouble in the sixth. After issuing a leadoff walk to David Hamilton, a throwing error by catcher Liam Hicks allowed him to reach third, and he later scored on a groundout. The outing was a much-needed correction after Perez allowed 15 runs over his first 20 innings of the season. The right-hander now owns a 4.15 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and a 27:12 K:BB across 26 innings, and will look to build on this performance in his next scheduled start against a Giants lineup that has struggled offensively this year.
APRIL 20 • ROTOWIRE
Lasts four innings Monday Perez did not factor into the decision Monday, allowing four runs (three earned) on seven hits and two walks over four innings against Atlanta. He struck out two.
Impact Perez failed to qualify for the win, as the right-hander was pulled after four innings on just 76 pitches. After averaging six strikeouts in his first three starts of the season, the 22-year-old managed only two punchouts in Monday's outing. Through four appearances in 2026, Perez owns a 5.40 ERA and 1.55 WHIP with a 20:11 K:BB across 20 innings and is slated to face Milwaukee in his next start Sunday.
APRIL 14 • ROTOWIRE
Earns first win of season Perez (1-1) earned the win Wednesday against the Reds after allowing four runs (two earned) on six hits and two walks across five innings. He struck out six and also hit a batter.
Impact Even though Perez finished just three outs away from recording a quality start, this was still a solid showing for the right-hander -- and more importantly, it was a bounce-back effort compared to his previous start. Perez has yet to pitch more than five innings after doing so in the opener against the Pirates, though, and that limits his upside a bit. Through three starts, Perez has a 5.06 ERA with a 1.38 WHIP and a 18:9 K:BB across 16 frames. His next start is scheduled for next week on the road against Atlanta.
APRIL 9 • ROTOWIRE
Can't find plate in Friday's loss Perez (0-1) took the loss Friday, giving up four runs on two hits and six walks over four innings as the Marlins were downed 8-2 by the Yankees. He struck out four.
Impact The 22-year-old right-hander's command within the strike zone was just as bad as his control as both hits he allowed went for extra bases, including an Aaron Judge two-run homer in the first inning. Perez has had a bumpy start to the season, posting a 5.73 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 12:7 K:BB through 11 innings over two outings. He'll try to turn things around in his next trip to the mound, which lines up to come at home next week against the Reds.
APRIL 4 • ROTOWIRE
Goes seven strong in season debut Perez did not factor into the decision in Saturday's 4-3 win over the Rockies, allowing three runs on five hits and one walk with eight strikeouts over seven innings.
Impact Perez surrendered two home runs but was otherwise effective, throwing 59 of 93 pitches for strikes and generating 17 whiffs. According to Christina De Nicola of MLB.com, it marked just the third time in 40 outings that the 22-year-old reached the seventh frame. The breakout candidate posted a 4.25 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 105:32 K:BB across 95.1 innings last season and flashed his upside Saturday. He'll face a tougher test on the road against the Yankees next weekend.
MARCH 29 • ROTOWIRE
Tops 80 pitches Friday Perez gave up two runs on four hits and a walk over five innings in Friday's Grapefruit League game against the Astros. He struck out five.
Impact In what was likely to be his final spring outing, Perez fired 52 of 81 pitches for strikes. The 22-year-old right-hander has a 5.52 ERA over 14.2 Grapefruit League innings thanks to a few untimely long balls, but Perez's 20:7 K:BB offers a more accurate glimpse at his upside. He's expected to take the mound next Match 28 at home against the Rockies.
MARCH 21 • ROTOWIRE
Fires four no-hit innings Sunday Perez walked one and struck out five over four scoreless, no-hit innings during Sunday's Grapefruit League game against the Astros.
Impact The 22-year-old right-hander's strikeout victims included Jose Altuve and prospect Zach Cole (twice) as Perez built up to 53 pitches, 30 of which went for strikes. Through 9.2 spring innings, he's posted a 15:6 K:BB, and Perez could be poised for a breakout campaign after he tossed a career-high 118 innings across three levels in 2025, delivering a 4.25 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 105:32 K:BB in 95.1 frames for the Marlins across 20 starts.
MARCH 16 • ROTOWIRE
Eased into spring Perez gave up one run on one hit and two walks over one inning in the Marlins' Grapefruit League game against the Cardinals on Monday. He struck out one.
Impact The 22-year-old right-hander tossed 19 pitches (nine strikes) in his first start of the spring before giving way to Max Meyer. Perez threw 118 innings across three levels in 2025, his first season back from Tommy John surgery, and while he scuffled early he posted a 3.86 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and 91:22 K:BB in 79.1 innings from July to the end of the regular season. The Marlins will let Perez ramp up slowly in camp, but he's locked into an Opening Day rotation spot.
FEBRUARY 24 • ROTOWIRE
Mixed results in sixth loss Perez (7-6) took the loss Saturday against the Mets, allowing three runs on three hits and three walks in 5.1 innings. He struck out 11.
Impact It was a mixed bag for Perez, who struggled with hard contact by yielding three extra-base hits but fanned a season-high 11. The hard-throwing right-hander had an up-and-down year after a late start amid his recovery from 2024 Tommy John surgery, though he flashed plenty of upside for fantasy managers to take into consideration ahead of 2026. Perez will end the campaign with a shaky 4.25 ERA across 95.1 innings, but his 1.05 WHIP, 105:32 K:BB and .195 opponent batting average are highly promising figures.

Fans nine in short outing Perez didn't factor into the decision Sunday against the Rangers, allowing two hits and a walk across four scoreless innings. He struck out nine.
Impact Perez struck out nine of the 16 batters he faced, and retired 10 straight batters at one point, flashing dominant stuff once again but exited after 84 pitches. The right-hander's September has been a tale of two halves, as he was tagged for 10 runs across his first two starts of the month but has since bounced back with nine straight scoreless innings over his last two. Perez will carry a 4.20 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 94:29 K:BB through 90 frames into his next scheduled outing against the Mets.
SEPTEMBER 22, 2025 • ROTOWIRE
Rebounds for seventh win Perez (7-5) allowed one hit and struck out six without walking a batter over five scoreless innings to earn the win over the Rockies on Tuesday.
Impact Perez likely had more to give, but a rain delay cut his start short at 71 pitches (46 strikes). It was still an improvement on his recent work -- he had allowed a total of 29 runs (27 earned) over 31 innings across his last seven starts, posting a 7.84 ERA in that span. The 22-year-old has shown flashes of potential this season, mainly in July, but he's also displayed plenty of inconsistency. He's at a 4.40 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 85:28 K:BB through 86 innings across 18 starts. He's projected for another road start over the weekend against the Rangers.

Fans seven, falls apart late Perez didn't factor into the decision against the Nationals on Wednesday, allowing three runs on seven hits while striking out seven over 5.2 innings.
Impact Perez looked dominant early, striking out five of the first six batters he faced and allowing just three hits through his first five frames, before unraveling in the sixth and surrendering four straight hits, failing to complete the frame. After a stellar July, the young right-hander has struggled of late, posting a 7.84 ERA across his last seven outings (32 innings). Perez now owns a 4.67 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 79:28 K:BB across 81 innings this season and will look to replicate his early-inning success from Wednesday in his next scheduled start against the Rockies, a matchup that should be favorable given Colorado's .294 OBP since the All-Star break.
SEPTEMBER 11, 2025 • ROTOWIRE
Struggles continue Wednesday Perez (6-5) took the loss Wednesday as the Marlins were downed 10-5 by the Nationals, surrendering seven runs on eight hits and a walk over four innings. He struck out two.
Impact Two of the hits off Perez left the yard, including Nasim Nunez's first career homer in the majors -- continuing a downturn that has seen the right-hander serve up multiple home runs in four of six starts since the beginning of August, a stretch in which he's been saddled with an 8.53 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and 21:10 K:BB over 25.1 innings. Perez will try to get back on track in his next outing, which lines up to come at home early next week in a rematch with the Nats.
SEPTEMBER 4, 2025 • ROTOWIRE
Fails to escape first frame Perez (6-4) took the loss against the Mets on Friday, allowing five runs on three hits and two walks in two-thirds of an inning without recording a strikeout.
Impact Perez entered Friday's contest off the heels of a quality start against the Blue Jays on Sunday. Any momentum from that outing fizzled out immediately Friday, with the 22-year-old right-hander allowing the first five batters he faced on board, which converted into five runs on homers from Juan Soto and Brandon Nimmo. Perez was pulled after tossing 39 pitches (21 strikes) and recording just two outs, which is the shortest outing of his major-league career since July 1, 2023 against Atlanta, when he logged just one out while allowing six runs in a loss. He'll look to bounce back in his next outing, tentatively slated for next week on the road against the Nationals.
