Moving to low-leverage role Manager Dave Roberts said Saturday that Diaz (neck) will move into a low-leverage role once he returns from the injured list, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports.

Impact Diaz has given up 18 earned runs in just 13.2 innings with the Dodgers this season, so the team will have him pitch in lower-leverage situations to begin with once he's healthy and gradually ease him back into a closing role. The 32-year-old righty threw a bullpen session Saturday and is expected to return from the IL around the time he's eligible to be activated Sept. 2. Until then, Tanner Scott figures to receive the bulk of the Dodgers' save opportunities.

Diagnosed with neck inflammation Dodgers manager Dave Roberts told reporters Tuesday that Diaz's placement on the 15-day injured list is due to neck inflammation, Jack Harris of the California Post reports.

Impact Diaz will head back to Los Angeles to undergo further tests for his neck issue Wednesday, and the initial expectation is that the right-hander will return this season, per Jack Harris of the California Post. Diaz saw his fastball velocity bottom out at 93 mph during Monday's outing against the Rockies, when he allowed three runs on four hits in one inning of work. Tanner Scott figures to serve as the Dodgers' preferred closer for as long as Diaz is sidelined.
