INJURIES

Collects save in return Diaz allowed one run on two hits over one inning to earn the save in Wednesday's 4-2 win over the Mariners.
Impact Diaz returned from an elbow surgery Wednesday, but he showed a little rust. He threw nine of 13 pitches for strikes and was able to lock down the save. The Dodgers clearly want Diaz to take the reins for closing duties, but they're not lacking in alternatives if he can't keep runs off the board. He's pitched to a 10.29 ERA and 10:5 K:BB through seven innings while converting five of six saves this season. If the Dodgers manage Diaz's workload, Tanner Scott and Alex Vesia would be the top options to see some ancillary save chances -- both pitched Wednesday in setup roles.

Activated from IL The Dodgers activated Diaz (elbow) from the 60-day injured list Wednesday.
Impact Diaz has been on the shelf since April 20 after undergoing surgery to remove loose bodies from his right elbow. He was cleared to embark on a rehab assignment right before the All-Star break, and across seven minor-league games he allowed two runs on four hits and two walks while striking out 11 over 5.2 innings. The Dodgers should ease Diaz back into the fold, but if all goes well, the veteran right-hander should reclaim the closer role from Tanner Scott at some point during the second half of the regular season.

Will be activated Wednesday The Dodgers plan to activate Diaz (elbow) off the injured list Wednesday, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports.
Impact Diaz landed on the injured list April 20 and underwent surgery on his right elbow just a couple of days later, which extended his absence. After missing over three months of action, the 32-year-old is finally set to return to the Dodgers bullpen Wednesday. Diaz will make his final rehab start Sunday with Triple-A Oklahoma before he rejoins the big-league club.

Won't return this weekend Manager Dave Roberts said Friday that Diaz (elbow) will not be activated during the Dodgers' weekend series against the Mets, Jack Harris of the California Post reports.
Impact Roberts hinted earlier in the week that Diaz was more likely to return next week, and the team has now officially decided to keep its star closer on the shelf for a few extra days and get him one final rehab outing at Triple-A Oklahoma City. The 32-year-old began pitching in rehab games July 11 and has since given up one run on two hits and a walk while fanning nine batters across five innings.

Impact A return for Diaz this weekend hasn't been totally ruled out, but rather than activate the closer for one series on the east coast this weekend versus the Mets, the Dodgers will likely wait until they begin a homestand next Tuesday. Out since late April following surgery to remove loose bodies in his right elbow, Diaz has tossed four scoreless innings with a 7:1 K:BB in four rehab outings.

Impact Diaz underwent surgery in late April to remove loose bodies in his right elbow. He's made four rehab appearances, facing just one over the minimum while logging a 7:1 K:BB over four innings. Diaz has not yet appearance in back-to-back games on his rehab assignment, and the Dodgers likely want him to check that box before he's reinstated. The 32-year-old Diaz is a safe bet to get his closer job back, but the Dodgers could have him make a lower-leverage appearance or two first.
