INJURIES

Expected to make next start Manager Craig Counsell said Wednesday that Cabrera's right hand is feeling better, and he's on track to make his next scheduled start, Jared Wyllys of AllCHGO.com reports.
Impact Cabrera was removed from his start Tuesday due to cramping in his right hand, but the Cubs don't seem to be very concerned about the issue. As long as he gets through his upcoming bullpen session without any problems, he should be able to make his next start against the Mets next week.

Exits with trainer Cabrera was removed from Tuesday's game against the Rockies with an apparent injury, Patrick Mooney of The Athletic reports.
Impact Cabrera made it through 4.1 innings Tuesday before one of the Cubs' trainers came out to the mound to look at his hand. It remains unknown what exactly the 28-year-old is dealing with, though it's worth noting he's already spent time on the injured list this season due to blister issues.

Cubs take on the Rockies after Crow-Armstrong hit for the cycle

The Chicago Cubs play the Colorado Rockies after Pete Crow-Armstrong hit for the cycle against the Rockies on Monday
JUNE 16 • Associated Press
Rebounds for fourth victory Cabrera (4-3) notched the win over Colorado on Thursday, allowing two runs on five hits and two walks while striking out five batters over 5.1 innings.
Impact After being pounded by the Giants for eight runs over 3.2 frames in his first start back from the injured list in his previous outing, Cabrera looked better against the Rockies. The right-hander did give up two more homers, but they were both solo shots, and Colorado couldn't put any other runs on the board. Cabrera tossed 51 of 83 pitches for strikes and secured his first victory since April 28. The five long balls he's allowed across his past two appearances are certainly a concern, but Cabrera is lined up for a more promising matchup in his next start, which is scheduled to be a rematch against the Rockies -- this time in Chicago.

Flattened by Giants in return Cabrera (3-3) took the loss Friday as the Cubs were routed 18-3 by the Giants, surrendering eight runs on eight hits -- including three home runs -- and one walk over 3.2 innings....
Impact Activated from the IL earlier in the day after being sidelined since May 20 due to a blister issue, Cabrera ran into a buzzsaw in his worst performance of the season. The right-hander served up a two-run homer to Willy Adames in the first inning before things completely fell apart in the fourth, an inning highlighted by a grand slam from Matt Chapman. Cabrera got the hook after 80 pitches (49 strikes), and he'll carry a 4.99 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and 53:21 K:BB through 57.2 innings into his next outing, which is set to come on the road next week in Colorado.

Activated ahead of Friday's start The Cubs activated Cabrera (finger) from the 15-day injured list Friday.
Impact Cabrera will start Friday's game against the Giants after missing the past two weeks with a blister on his right middle finger. The right-hander did not make a rehab start, so he could be relatively limited from a pitch count perspective versus the Giants. Cabrera holds a 4.00 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 47:20 K:BB across 54 innings in his first season with the Cubs.

Lee leads Giants against the Cubs after 4-hit performance

The San Francisco Giants play the Chicago Cubs after Jung Hoo Lee had four hits against the Brewers on Thursday
JUNE 5 • Associated Press
Expected to start Friday Cabrera (finger) is listed as the probable starter for Friday's game against the Giants.
Impact Cabrera is eligible to come off the injured list Friday and was initially expected to start Saturday afternoon's game against San Francisco. However, it appears the Cubs are pushing him up a day and moving Ben Brown back to Saturday to give him six days rest. Cabrera developed a blister after allowing four runs (one earned) on four hits and two walks with two strikeouts across three innings May 20 against the Brewers. On the season, the right-hander owns a 4.00 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and disappointing 47:20 K:BB across 54 innings. He has a career-low 20.7 percent strikeout rate, and Cabrera has lost some zip on his fastball, averaging just 95.7 mph with the pitch after coming in at 97 mph with Miami in 2025.

Returning Saturday Cabrera (finger) will start Saturday's game against the Giants, Taylor McGregor of Marquee Sports Network reports.
Impact Cabrera landed on the injured list in late May with a blister on his right middle finger but is now slated to return to the Cubs' rotation following a near-minimum stay. The 28-year-old righty got off to a strong start this season but has struggled as of late, posting a 5.79 ERA and 1.66 WHIP across 18.2 innings (four starts) in May.

Resumes throwing off mound Cabrera (finger) threw a 25-pitch bullpen session Thursday and had been scheduled to throw off the mound Sunday with greater intensity, Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune rep...
Impact The Cubs haven't confirmed that Cabrera was in fact able to throw again Sunday, but Montemurro notes that the right-hander was able to use his entire pitch mix during Thursday's session. Cabrera's ability to use his full arsenal suggests that the blister on his right middle finger isn't providing any complications with his off-speed pitches, so the 28-year-old looks like he could have a realistic chance at avoiding a rehab assignment and returning from the 15-day injured list this coming weekend when he's first eligible. If he's deemed ready to go for the Cubs' weekend series with the Giants, Cabrera would presumably replace Jordan Wicks as the team's fifth starter.
