INJURIES

Exits start with apparent injury Cabrera was removed from Thursday's Grapefruit League start against the Astros in the first inning with an apparent injury, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
Impact De Nicola speculates that Cabrera -- who threw only two of 12 pitches for strikes before being lifted -- could be having fingernail issues, which is something he's dealt with in the past. The Marlins should update the right-hander's status shortly.

Spring struggles continue Cabrera got tagged for six runs on four hits -- including three home runs -- and two walks over 1.2 innings in Friday's Grapefruit League game against the Red Sox. He struck out tw...
Impact Trevor Story took Cabrera deep twice, while Abraham Toro also touched him up for a long ball. The right-hander's ability to generate whiffs keeps earning him chances in the Marlins' rotation -- he's posted a strikeout rate north of 25 percent in the majors in each of the last three seasons -- but Cabrera's control and command within the strike zone remain significant hurdles between him and consistent fantasy production. Through 4.2 innings over three appearances this spring, he's stumbled to a 19.29 ERA with a 3:2 K:BB.
MARCH 8 • ROTOWIRE
Shaky command to begin spring Cabrera gave up three runs on four hits in just one inning during Tuesday's Grapefruit League game against the Nationals.
Impact While the right-hander didn't walk anyone and tossed 15 of 21 pitches for strikes, he failed to record a strikeout and uncorked a wild pitch. Cabrera also had trouble hitting his spots, leaving too many pitches over the heart of the plate. The Marlins are counting on Cabrera to take a step forward in 2025 and become a reliable rotation arm, but over parts of four big-league seasons he's never finished with a walk rate below 11.3 percent, and without better control and command his impressive raw stuff isn't going to translate into consistent results.
FEBRUARY 26 • ROTOWIRE
Drawing raves from new skipper New Marlins manager Clayton McCullough believes Cabrera can take a big step forward this season, Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reports.
Impact The 26-year-old has never been lacking in raw arm talent and has struck out 225 batters in 196 innings over the last two seasons, but Cabrera's shaky control and command have been the main thing holding him back so far during his big-league career, along with an inability to stay healthy. Despite McCullough's enthusiasm, it's hard to get too excited about Cabrera as a fantasy asset given his 4.95 ERA, 4.68 FIP and 1.40 HR/9 in 2024, but the Marlins are in dire need of quality innings and the right-hander is locked into a rotation spot as long as he can avoid another trip to the IL.
FEBRUARY 5 • ROTOWIRE
Settles with Miami The Marlins and Cabrera avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year contract Thursday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
Impact Cabrera qualified for Super 2 status and will avoid an arbitration hearing. Still trying to find consistency at the major-league level, the right-hander held a 4.95 ERA and 107:50 K:BB over 96.1 innings this past season.

Notches no-decision Wednesday Cabrera allowed three runs (one earned) on four hits and one walk while striking out five batters over five innings in a no-decision against Minnesota on Wednesday.
Impact Cabrera's own error led to two unearned runs in the third inning, and he served up a solo shot to Byron Buxton in the fourth. The most impressive part of the right-hander's outing was his 16 swinging strikes, though they led to a modest five punchouts. Cabrera didn't get the win, but this was a vast improvement over his previous start, when he gave up seven runs over 2.1 frames against the Dodgers.

Blasted in loss Cabrera (4-8) took the loss Thursday, allowing seven runs on four hits and five walks over 2.1 innings against the Dodgers. He struck out three.
Impact Cabrera allowed single runs in each of the first two innings, then lost his control in the third, tossing just 10 of 26 pitches for strikes while allowing a single, three walks and hitting a batter prior to being pulled with one out in the inning. Two additional runs crossed the plate prior to his removal while all three runners he was responsible for later came around to score to render him with seven total runs allowed. Cabrera entered the game having allowed just one earned run over his previous three starts but ran into a buzzsaw on Thursday. Cabrera is tentatively slated to make one more start this season, set to take place when the Marlins travel to Minnesota to take on the Twins.

Fans nine in loss Cabrera (4-7) allowed two unearned runs on one hit and a walk over six innings Friday, striking out nine and taking a loss against Washington.
Impact Cabrera gave up two runs in the first inning due to his own error before settling in for a dominant outing. He racked up nine punchouts for the first time since May 2 and generated 16 whiffs, including seven with the changeup. Cabrera has produced an 18:4 K:BB while allowing only one earned run over his last 18.1 innings. Since returning from the injured list in July, he's registered a 3.72 ERA, lowering his season mark to 4.55 through 89 innings. Cabrera is currently in line for a home matchup against the Dodgers next week.

Earns win with seven strong innings Cabrera (4-6) earned the win Sunday, allowing three hits and one walk over seven scoreless innings against the Phillies. He struck out six.
Impact Cabrera shut down a potent Phillies lineup, allowing only four baserunners through seven shutout innings. He was initially slated to start Friday's contest but a migraine pushed his start back to Sunday and Cabrera delivered a quality performance. It was the second time in the last month that Cabrera has completed seven scoreless innings and the eighth time in his last nine starts that he's tossed at least five innings while allowing three or fewer runs. Cabrera will look to continue his strong close to the season when he takes on the Nationals in Washington.

Cleared to start Sunday Cabrera (head) is slated to start Sunday's game against the Phillies in Miami.
Impact Cabrera had initially been in line to start Friday versus Philadelphia, but he was scratched approximately 70 minutes before the opening pitch after reporting migraine-like symptoms. The Marlins instead opted for an impromptu bullpen day while Cabrera was briefly hospitalized due to the issue but quickly released. After rejoining the Marlins on Saturday, Cabrera is apparently feeling much better and will now end up taking the hill for the series finale as a replacement for Max Meyer, who was placed on the injured list with shoulder bursitis.

Could be available Sunday Cabrera (migraine) could be available to start Sunday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
Impact Cabrera was scratched from his start Friday due to migraines, and he spent a brief period of time in the hospital. He was discharged and cleared, leaving him the chance to pick up his throwing progression Saturday. Even if Cabrera isn't available Sunday, he should be available to start at some point in the coming days.

Scratched with migraine Cabrera was unable to make his start Friday due to a migraine, Kevin Barral of FishonFirst.com reports.
Impact Cabrera was unable to make his start Friday, though the team didn't announce the cause at the time he was scratched. He'll presumably be ready for his next turn through the rotation.
SEPTEMBER 7, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Scratched from start Cabrera (undisclosed) has been scratched from his start for Friday's game against the Phillies, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
Impact It's unclear why Cabrera was removed from Friday's start, but Austin Kitchen will start in his place. Cabrera is 3-6 over his 16 starts this season with a 5.33 ERA, 1.47 WHJIP and 84:42 K:BB across 76 innings. His next projected start in the rotation is at the tail end of the Marlins' road series against the Pirates on Sept. 11.

Picks up third win Cabrera (3-6) picked up the win over the Giants on Saturday, allowing two runs (one earned) on six hits and two walks over 5.1 innings while striking out three.
Impact Cabrera was shaky early on, issuing two walks in the first inning while needing 28 pitches to get through the frame. The right-hander was still able to get through the inning unscathed, however, and managed to keep the Giants off the scoreboard until the bottom of the fifth when he surrendered back-to-back hits with one out, followed by an RBI groundout from Mike Yastrzemski. Cabrera was then relieved by Xzavion Curry with two outs in the sixth, narrowly missing out on his fourth quality start of the season. The 26-year-old had a fairly solid August, pitching to the tune of a 3.58 ERA while going 2-3. However, he's now issued multiple walks in nine-consecutive starts and has posted three or fewer strikeouts in three of his last four.
