Opening again Wednesday Leone will start Wednesday's game versus the Padres, Kerry Crowley of The San Jose Mercury News reports.
Impact Leone will get a fourth turn as an opener, a role he's filled frequently in the last couple of weeks. He can be expected to cover 1-to-2 innings in the contest, which is essentially another bullpen game as manager Gabe Kapler deals with a shorthanded rotation. Through 7.2 innings in September, Leone has allowed two unearned runs on two hits and two walks while striking out four over 7.2 innings.

Solid in opener role Leone allowed a hit and struck out one batter in two scoreless innings as the opener in Monday's win over San Diego. He did not factor in the decision.
Impact Leone needed just 18 pitches (15 strikes) to roll through two shutout frames in Monday's victory. It didn't hurt that the Giants' offense racked up five runs in the first inning. The 29-year-old lowered his ERA to 1.41 through 46 appearances this season and has given up just one earned run over his last 14 innings.

Draws start in bullpen game Leone is scheduled to start Monday against the Padres in what amounts to a bullpen game, Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic reports.
Impact Leone will pick up his third start in eight days while the Giants currently have only three healthy rotation options (Kevin Gausman, Logan Webb and Anthony DeSclafani) on the 28-man active roster. The Giants are expected to call up Scott Kazmir from Triple-A Sacramento later this week to serve as a starting option or primary pitcher out of the bullpen, but the team will likely use multiple relievers after Leone exits Monday's contest. In his last turn as an opener Saturday, Leone worked two innings, tying his longest outing of the season.

Works two innings Friday Leone pitched two perfect innings as the opener in Friday's 6-1 win over Chicago. He struck out two and did not factor in the decision.
Impact Friday was just the second multi-inning appearance of the year for Leone, but he delivered strong work in his second turn as an opener. He's produced excellent ratios this year with a 1.48 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 40:20 K:BB across 42.2 innings. Leone could see additional opening opportunities while Alex Wood (COVID-19) and Johnny Cueto (elbow) remain unavailable, as manager Gabe Kapler has shown little hesitation to using a bullpen game to address an understaffed rotation.

Starting another bullpen game Leone will be the first pitcher on the mound for what's expected to be a bullpen game Friday against the Cubs, Kerry Crowley of The San Jose Mercury News reports.
Impact Leone made the first start of his eight-year career Sunday as part of a similar setup. He threw just a single inning in that game and has recorded more than three outs in just one of his 44 appearances this season, so don't expect him to throw much more than one frame Friday.

Clean inning as opener Leone pitched a perfect inning in Sunday's 6-4 win over the Dodgers.
Impact The 29-year-old was called upon to start San Francisco's second consecutive bullpen game, and he got the job done in the first inning. Leone did not factor in the decision, as he hasn't worked more than one inning since his second appearance of the year back in June. He's been good in a high-leverage role with a 1.82 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 38:20 K:BB across 39.2 innings while adding a save, 13 holds and a 3-3 record this year.

Starting Sunday Leone will start Sunday's game against the Dodgers, Kerry Crowley of The San Jose Mercury News reports.
Impact Manager Gabe Kapler will employ a bullpen game for the second consecutive day, with Leone leading the way in the series finale versus Los Angeles. The right-hander has pitched more than an inning on one occasion this season, so it's safe to say he won't pitch deep enough to qualify for a victory.

Takes loss in relief Wednesday Leone (3-3) was tagged with the loss in relief Wednesday against Milwaukee after allowing one run on one hit and one walk while fanning one across two-thirds of an inning.
Impact Leone pitched the seventh inning and quickly retired Luis Urias and Rowdy Tellez for the first two outs, but the wheels came off thereafter. He walked Lorenzo Cain and allowed a Jackie Bradley single in the next at-bat and departed with runners on the corners before exiting. Ultimately, Cain would end up scoring, and as a result, Leone was tagged with the loss despite retiring the first two batter he faced. The right-hander has now given up runs in each of his last two appearances but still owns a decent 2.70 ERA across 13.1 innings (16 outings) since the beginning of August.

Picks up win in relief Leone (3-2) fired a perfect seventh inning while striking out two, earning the win over the Athletics on Sunday.
Impact Leone entered the game with the Giants down a run in the seventh inning and retired the side in order. The Giants took the lead in the next inning, giving him the win. He has allowed just two runs in 13 innings over his last 15 appearances. The 29-year-old has a 1.57 ERA and 1.02 WHIP with 36 strikeouts in 34.1 innings this season.

Records one-out save Leone earned the save Tuesday against the Mets after striking out the only batter he faced.
Impact Leone had the task of recording the final out of the game after Jarlin Garcia retired two batters and allowed a hit in the top of the ninth. The right-hander struck out Kevin Pillar on three pitches and earned his first save of the season as a result, though he's only gone 1-for-3 in save opportunities. He also has 10 holds while posting an excellent 1.72 ERA across 31.1 innings, so he should continue to see high-leverage work even if he's not going to have many save chances going forward.

Allows two runs in loss Leone (2-2) allowed two earned runs on two hits and one walk while recording just one out, taking the loss to the Rockies on Saturday.
Impact Leone entered the sixth inning in a tie game. He allowed the first three batters to reach base safely, leading to a pair of runs. He had nine scoreless innings over his last previous nine outings. The 29-year-old boasts a 1.76 ERA and 1.04 WHIP this season. In addition, he has a 9.4 K/9 over 30.2 innings.
